Default New Zenoah ZP-38, need help re: carb location

I'm building a 1/4 scale Monocoupe 90a from a kit. it has a pretty short nose since it was a radial engine plane. I chose a Zenoah ZP-38 for it which I've had on the shelf for a few months. I'm at the point that I'm building the nose, cowl etc.

My problem is that the carb sticks way too far off the side of the engine - to use it as is I'd have to make a big hole in the side of the nose and I'm not about to do that on this model.

Is there a way I can make this engine work? If I could shorten the block between the carb and the engine it might work. If I were to change and go with an older style magneto G-38 is the carb closer in to the engine?

Any suggestions or advice is appreciated.

Is there a velocity stack?

If so it can easily be eliminated.

While the insolator block is not to be eliminated. Using modern materials and some design thinking, I'm sure you could reduce it slightly.

There is no velocity stack. This is what I'm dealing with.

Looks just fine where it is. No need for any changes to the fuel intake. One half an inch is accepted standard for 50cc.

My only suggestion would be to fuelproof the area to protect against reversion (raw fuel bouncing out of carb).

Don't fix what ain't broke!

what the picture doesn't show is that the piece I"m holding isn't attacked to the firewall/fuse yet. It still has about 1.5" to go back to where it would be attached. That would put the carb protuding not only out the front (which wouldn't be a big deal as there's still a fiberglass cowl to go on) but also out the left sidewall. The side of the subcowl angles sort of like a cone there.

You can see the gap in the 2nd pic

You will have to tell me what you are doing with the space from the prop hub back? There seems to be too much space there.

If it is a dummy radial just hide the carb to the best of your ablity and let it be. Or make some quick mockups to get a better idea of what it is going to take to get this done to your sastisfaction.

Current pictures lack enough details for me.

Toni Clark has a cast aluminum 90 degree carb manifold for this engine.

http://www.toni-clark.com/index_en.htm

If the link only takes you to the home page, click on ZG Engines, then on the 38cc engine, then on the left side click on "accessories". You will see the manifold there. It's a neat part, but kind of pricey. Sometimes a price is worth it though, to solve a problem. I know what you mean about not wanting the carb to stick out all ugly like. I have a big Tiger Moth that I used a rear exhaust, rear intake Ryobi engine just so nothing would stick out of that nice slim Tiger Moth engine cowling.

I'd thought about the toni clark piece but I didn't actually research it. Thanks for bringing it up. I emailed and Gerhard said it should work for me. I'll be placing my order, hopefully everthing works well when it gets here.
