Default Evolution 58 and 80GX No Longer Supported by Horizon?

I stupidly fried my Evolution 80Gx in a warbird cowl setup. I went to Horizon to buy another and get parts for my current one, nothing, engine discontinued, no parts. Same for Evolution 58.

Thanks alot for that and duly noted.

Ordered a DA-85.

Anyone need a blue and aluminum boat anchor?

Sometimes a 3rd party buys the parts inventory and sell them on Ebay. Have you checked that source?

Many of the parts, if not all of the parts, actually could be used from the MVVS engine too. I think that they only changed the crankcase casting to have the Evolution Logo on it and they used a different CDI unit on later versions.
Yeah I like the 58 engine myself too. I did get a CH-Ignitions unit to replace the old Valach two magnet unit on one of my engines too.

Thanks guys, yes I've contacted BJs engine service since he is listed as a MVVS servicing station. The Ebay idea is one I will explore as well. The whole situation is a shame, the Evo 80 is a powerhouse of an engine and noticeably smoother than other 80s I've operated.

Well sonofagun! I struck aluminum on Ebay so thanks for that great tip. I bought the cylinder head, piston ring and gaskets, which shipped from...Horizon, go figure. The Ebay checkout window did say "LAST ONE" for each item so that's probably all Horizon had left of 80GX stuff.

Good lessons here all around; make sure your engine has enough cooling, buy mainstream engines with good support infrastructure, don't leave out Ebay when looking for parts and did I mention don't burn your engine up?

Please contact the factory if you need any parts or engines?
Finns do good experience in maintenance services.

Thank you.

On a closing note, the engine is running perfect after I replaced the cylinder and piston ring.

Try Chief Aircraft. From what I know, they are a recent distributor for MVVS in the US

Now that you mention it, I ordered an 80 from them and they called to tell me the engine is not in stock and discontinued.

That is quite odd,
MVVS list four different models of the 80cc, or:
80 ICU-L
80SP (ICU-S)
80 Twin Spark
80 w Starter (same engine as 80 SP but has a built in starter)

The 58, 80 and the 116 have always been their flagship engines. In fact the 80 is probably the best engine in its size class available, bar none

I think the issue with Chief and the Evolution/MVVS 80 is Horizon was the supplier and has dropped the engines. Chief has no remaining Evolution 80 engines in stock. SInce Chief is an MVVS supplier perhaps they will eventually stock the 80.

In the meantime, I agree with your assessment of the 80GX. I have about 1 hour of run time on the engine and so far it has performed very well. The 80 GX is very powerful and incredibly smooth for a large single cylinder model engine.
