Stick with the Zenoha. Those US engines are junk.

I have a weeks special powered by a us 41, the engine has been just about as dependable as it gets and pulls the 18lb weeks with power to spare. Compared to the engines of today it's heavy and gutless but for longevity I would pit it against any of today's two cycle rice burners. My US41 is over 30yrs old and has probably 1000 hrs on it and still runs like the day I got it, yep it's a junk engine.

There are more parts around for the G38. CD ignition is a option for it also. If you should sell your 25 LB airplane there are quite a few airplanes set up for the G38.

a 62 will not fit in the airplane, its a bates 87 inch tempest , and the nose is designed for a big glow.
the rear exaust setup on the 38 and us 41 is best , because a 62 will cause me to cut stuff up , in the nose area. the g-38 is just a newer choice between the two.

I assume this is the hawker tempest II? I would think there's plenty of room in that cowl for a 62 with a inverted wrap around pitts muffler. Whats the cowl dia.? Might consider a jtec p-51 inv. wrap. A 38 may be a bit under powered unless you keep it on the light side.
I might be a bit harsh stating US engines are junk. I've had three of them in the past. The 35 was under powered for it's size and weight, the two 41s I had,had the cranks seize up on me. Never had any problems with Zenohas. I've never had any of the DLEs, but they have a rear exhaust 55 you might consider if a 62 is out of the question.

The US41 and the G38 engines are both very reliable and were the predominant engines of their era for warbirds and civilian scale . They are considered to be heavy under powered by most of today's pilots standards. The DLE 55RA is a rear exhaust and rear carb engine that is reliable and powerful and is more in line with most of todays pilots desires (less cowl cutting too...)

I will muddy the water hear a bit the 38 and 41 are old school and reliable, and I don't think ether would fly a 25 lbs. bird well. But if I were going to spend money on an engine and if the size is your basic problem, I would look at RCGF or DLE in the 45 to 60 range as they have a slightly smaller profile front and side than the G-38 or UA-41 and because of the latest porting they produce more power, you also need to consider how you will muffle the engine.

I had a 38 in 18+ lb Weeks and it flew it great, one of my flying buddies has a 41 in a 20 lb DR- something and it flies great,. or club guys don't have a DLE in the bunch but we do have a gaggle of RCGF's Zenoh's and a few quadra's and have not had any problems with them.

Now I do have an old but great running 38 with the mag, and an YDA-56 with only about an hour on it and both are for sale if you are interested PM me and I will work with you. but be sure to look at RCU's engine sales adds. my parting shot is stay away from fleabay for engines don't as why I say that.

Cheers Bob T
