So I have been thinking about the best and simplest way to choke/prime this engine on my next project and have been reading about how other people do it since this engine doesnot come with a choke. Has anyone ever thought of installing one of these little fuel primer bulbs that come on the yard tools like string trimmers and chain saws? Here is a pic of what I'm talking about.

I think that primer bulb idea should work! I'm in the prosses of redoing my fuel tank and pluming right now and I'll give that a try.

I'm running the second Qt of fuel in my engine. Does this have a pump carb? it looks similar to the Walbro carb.
I want to run a two line fuel system and fuel the tank using a T fitting through the feed line which is easy to do with the Walbro carb as nothing will flow through the Carb.
The first few times I tried that on the test stand fuel dripped from the Carb.

What has been the experience on the effectiveness of pressurizing the fuel tank from the exhaust and how much exhaust residue get blown out the fitting and goes back into the fuel tank?

Ray English insists on using muffler pressure to pressurize the fuel tank, since the pump on the carb is weak. I asked about safety, and he said it is not a problem, and that his customers are running muffler pressure without incident. I just got my engine back from him, and his instructions detail using exhaust pressure to run the engine.

It will be a bit before I get it in the air, as I got the recall notice from Horizon on the PowerSafe receivers... not sure when the replacement receivers are going to be available.

I sent my crashed engine to Horizon Hobby for repair. They called me and said that the total cost of repair would be about $650 and would take several months waiting for parts. They offered to sell me a new engine instead at a very attractive price. The new one arrived today and I should start the break-in process this week.

They'll be a slight delay in trying out that primer bulb. I found the ones I had, but they were the wrong type, so I had to order some.

I'm just at the stage of mounting the engine, I suspect I should be ready for engine break-in by end April.

Tom, send Reverend a PM with what you want and indicate your shipping address. He will respond with the time it will take to make your fan. When the fan is finished he will PM you requesting your e-mail address so he can send you a PayPal request for payment.

I'd recommend baffles even with the fan. Air will still take the path of least resistance, which is not through the fins. Force the air to go where needed.

Received my fan from Reverend today, excellent service, nine days from order to delivery. It fits the back plate perfectly, looks great and is well engineered. I will drill and tap the back plate for attachment using the 8 attachment holes in the fan face as the template for drilling the holes in the back plate.

After doing the bench running of the new engine I've installed it in an old Aeromaster for the flying breakin.

interesting to note that the engine identifier plate on your engine is in different location and different color than on my early build. red plate near crankcase breather on mine. makes me wonder if anything else has changed?

Well folks, I finally got around to messing with those primer bulbs this afternoon. I can't say as they work as well as I expected problem being this type of carb with a rotating barrel. You can't pressurize the fuel in the line (which is what your doing) without having somewhere for the air and fuel to go. In order to do that the barrel has to be rotated to at least 1/2 throttle or so, but then you wind up dribbling fuel all over the place out the throat, which I don't think is a good idea, at least not to excess. Granted, the lines I used were pretty long, it just being a experiment using a primer. It would work better with shorter lines, but I'm still concerned about the dribbling situation.

Have you tried turning off the ignition, opening the throttle and turning the prop backwards?
That very well may "prime" the engine.. which is all you need.

Actually I think you could prime it just like any other Saito 4 stroke... cover the exhaust with your finger and normal rotation with the throttle open. Easy enough to do with the Keleo ring, tuff with the 3 flex pipes. With a full tank in my P47 I'm getting a slight gravity feed to the carb with the plane level, so it's pretty well primed anyway. I was just doing the primer bulb for Khoysagk and my own curiosity.
