OS gas glow plug

I agree. Anything over 20cc doesn't need the mod. I'm using the Supertigre 3200 because it already has the gas conversion plus the small threads. It was given to me so no great loss if it doesn't work. If it runs, I'll look for a plane to put it on. I also have an Evolution 10cc that would be good to try it on. Only problem there is that their recommended 20-1 mixture might foul the plug

To anyone who has made the change from a synchrospark type ignition (rcxcel,CH ,etc) to the OS gas glow plug would you post some before and after readings on changes in thrust , rpm's, fuel consumption engine temps etc..
I am considering making this change on a DLE 30 or a ROTO 35VI but I would like some input from others who have already made the changes on similar size engines.

I'm running a GT-15 gasser with ignition on a DRASTIK 40 with a 14x6 prop and it has plenty of power. The ignition and battery weight is insignificant even on a small air frame. It has unlimited vertical power. The only thing that takes time to learn is the front carburetor and adjusting it. Once you get it adjusted properly it runs great and is very easy to start. The plug is a standard CM-6 so they are easy to get at most auto parts store. $2.99.

Yes I agree with j41captn. I have the same OS GT 15 and it is a great running engine with the OS CDI ignition. With the cost of the CM6 plugs being only 2.99 compaired to $12 to $15 for a glow plug this does not give me any reason to switch. The weight savings is only a couple of oz's at the most.

There are people that connect the ignition to the receiver battery when using 2.4ghz saving the extra battery wt. It seems to me the better way to go. The new ignition units are very small and light

This little sucker is intriguing, particularly its idle which seems similar to the CDI version. There is a very slight hesitation upon throttle up, not unlike many glow engines on glow fuel.
If I had a need for a 15cc gas engine I'd buy it.

This is the fuel recommendation from the OS GGT15 gas glo engine:
Use regular gasoline. (No need to use high octane
gasoline.)
Alcohol based glow fuel cannot be used in this
engine. Not only will the engine not work properly
but the internal carburetor plastic parts will be
damaged.
Use high quality commercially available 2 stroke
engine oil.
Follow the oil manufacturer’s recommendations
concerning the mixture ratio of gasoline and oil.
If there is no recommendation, mix with a 25~30:1.

I now have a whole seven flights on my Twist 60 with the OS GGT 15 gas/glow and it works great. I have been using Coleman fuel with 32:1 mix in all my gas engines because I don't want the smell of gas in my new house, that's the main reason. The OS 15cc gas glow seems to have the same power that my OS 75 glow does and that's at 5000 ft. I think that this is a very interesting hobby where you can try different types of power systems and have fun flying.

I also am using the GGT15 in a ultra stick 60 I only have three flights on it now. For some reason it seems to take a while to get it running first flight out have you had this happen? I am getting good power using a 14x6x10 zinger prop what are you using?

I was having a problem starting mine, but it was because my glow igniter wasn't fully charged. So now I use my power panel battery and it starts right away, but I also use a starter. Also the first run takes some time to warm up, but after that (also the morning warms up) it runs fine. I have 7 flights on mine using a 14 X 8 prop. Hope this helps. As j41captn stated I think the carb setting are sensitive. But I'm glad I bought this engine.

Jim, I have about 30 flights on my GT 15 now and it is very easy to start and it idles smoothly with no hesitation on acceleration. I run a 14x6 prop at 10,200 RPMs but I'm going to put a 15x6 prop to lower the RPMs to around 9,700 RPMs. If the wind cooperates I'll fly Tuesday morning. Jim, I hope to see you out there.

I have a problem with my OS GGT15, the glow plug only lasts 5 flights, then it will not idle. Put in a new glow plug at $13 a glow plug, and it lasts about another 5 flights. Is this normal? I am thinking i should get the spark plug version GT15 or the DLE 20. How long do the spark plugs last? they are a lot cheaper .

tgorycki, I have the OS GT-15 with about 40 flights so far with no problems. It starts easily, runs great, idles great and no dead sticks. The CM-6 spark plugs cost $2.99 at the local auto parts store. I have hundreds of flights on my other gassers with the CM-6 spark plug with no problems. With the needles set correctly, good oil mixture (I'm running AmsOil 100:1), proper gap (.18-.20 ) and excluding any crashes, the spark plug should last for hundreds of flights. I also have the O S GT -22 with about 40 flights and I've never had a problem with it. I set the needles once and flew it. The OS GT-22 costs about ($420) compared to the DLE-20 ($249) but the OS GT is far more superior and worth it.

FWIW- My GG15 was taking forever to show up so I decided against it and opted for the ignition version. It's about as sweet a runner as I've had experienced.

Only methanol has a catalytic reaction with platinum, not the ethanol found in todays gasoline. We did a lot of experimenting with what we called "Gas/Glow", whereby we mixed 33% glow fuel with gasoline. That worked really well. A few tried to use gasoline, or E85 which is 85% ethanol and 15% gasoline. The only way to get the engines to run smoothly and reliably with the gasoline or ethanol was with full time glow heat. (glow plug hooked to a battery) That did work however, which makes me wonder if the "fix" is just a much hotter than normal glow plug.
Here's the Gas/Glow system we invented that worked without glow heat:
