Mintor 22 Piston

I am just disgusted with this engine. I will get it taken apart soon to see that the problem is. I know it has very little compression again. The engine only ran about a minute and luckily was still on the runway when it happened. It's not locked up, and don't have any rough feeling to it. So I'm not sure what the issue may be. Either way, it is not going back into one of my airplanes.

Lomcevac, get someone to fix your Mintor 22 engine...it may end up being your favorite. Post more about it. Did you get it new or used? Help is out there, they just got to know more about details to figure out what needs doing. Best Regards, John

Lomecevac's engine happens to be a 33. Email is a much better place to talk about this Ronnie. Considering this thread is for the 22 Mintor.
Feel free to contact me any time so we can get to the bottom of what happened.

Karol, wanted to know the RPM of my Mintor 22. My friend checked the RPM with a new tack. The Idle was a low as 1450 & the High RPM was 8,230. This was on a mix of Red Line oil at 30-1 & the fuel was Pure-gas that was mixed last summer. Going to get some new of the same gas that's fresh & see what that does. Best Regards to all, John

Using a 32 :1 mix of 90 octane ethanol blended (E90) unleaded pump gas and Red Line at approx. 3,000' elev. my M22 spinning a Falcon 17x6 has a reliable idle at 1,900 and 7,600 rpm at WOT. At my club's flying field which is at sea level max rpm's are close to 8,000 rpm.

The cylinders on the Mintor engine's are not true and can vary as much as .001, but I try to maintain .0015-.002 clearance if possible.
The new piston is the one on the left hand side.
I have seen some with as much skirt clearance as .008.

Just wondering, was the .008 skirt clearance caused by a tapered cylinder or a piston not uniform in dia? Or a combination of both the cylinder & the piston off dimensions? Thanks & Take Care

Karol, I may fly the Pro 260 today as it is warm here now. I have the carbon cleaned out & I plan to run it hard with not much idle time. I do not want the carbon to build up. May try Stilhl Ultra.

I flew the Aeroworks Pro 260 with the Mintor 22 on it. I just pulled the cyl to see how it looked inside. It was ok except for some soft carbon that cleaned out real easy with acetone & a scotch brite pad. It ran real good today with the air temp in the high 70,s. Got 2 flights in then my friend Jack showed up & he flew 2 flights. I then put 2 more flights and it ran super good at all speeds. The Idle was so slow I had to trim it down...the thing just did not want to stop. The Idle was so slow it was unreal. Back home, cleaned the plane & checked the compression. It has more now...good bonus! Capt,n

No, I haven't had time to get it apart yet, getting ready for Joe Nall this week.
I have been meaning to get back on here just to say that I am in no way blaming anyone for this happening. Richard has been nothing but helpful to me and I also recommended him to another friend of mine that is also happy with his work. I have just made the decision to retire this engine and replace it with something that will be reliable. It is on a Gee Bee Z and I really need an engine that I can rely on. I will get it apart soon because I will be putting a DLE 35RA on the Gee Bee. This plane has been built for almost four years and I have very few flights on it because of this engine.
I am curious as to what happened, and I may even try to make a new rod for it and get it running again. I will let you know what I find as soon as I know.

Well another nice day to fly RC here so we did. Got more real good engine runs & some practice for them 3 point landings. Jack flew his Carl G Extra 300 with a Supertiger .75 on it. I tuned it for him & it now runs great. SOME FUN ! John

That unfortunately is mintor in a nut shell . If you can do as captain said your lucky if not strip the carb , ignition and anything else you deem of value and throw the rest as far as you can off a bridge . At least you may get some satisfaction that way . Lucky you only have one , I have 2 . Cheers
