While we're on the beat up Ford kick (so much fun), several years ago (2008?) we had a new F250 diesel pickup in our shop. I don't remember for what reason, but the owners manual was there while we had the dash apart so I picked it up and looked through it. On the very first page was a huge warning .... "Engine service operations that can be performed without removing the cab"! On that and many newer Ford diesel pickups, there are only a few engine service operations that can be done without removing the whole cab and I think Ford flat rates the cab R&R at something like 8 or 10 hours. Oh well, at least they warned the owners.

There are so many strange mechanical nightmares in newer vehicles, Ford certainly doesn't have a monopoly on that as GM and Chrysler has more than their fair share also. A guy really does have to do his homework before buying or at minimum buy extended warranties.

I was taught in auto shop that dissimilar metals corrode. If you use spark plugs with steel bases in aluminum heads, you will encounter corroded threads and quite possibly damaged cylinder heads if the plugs aren't changed at normal intervals. I thought for sure I'd have a few damaged plug holes in my hemi's heads because of how hard those plugs were to get out. The new generation of Hemi engines all have aluminum heads. I've not come across any tech bulletins stating not to use antisieze on plugs in these Hemi heads. If they were iron heads, I'd not use antisieze compound as I've never had any trouble getting plugs out of iron heads.

Yeah, the plugs in my brother's 95 Camaro are no fun to change at all, but nothing like some of the Ford nightmares. I've got to say, my 87 Corvette is the easiest car I've ever worked on in 50 years of wrenching. It is as if the engineers actually tried to consider maintenance and made things easy. Like the fuel pump. It is in the gas tank like most cars these days, but they provided a removeable hatch in the top of the tank as part of the fuel filler. You can change the fuel pump in 20 minutes and not have to take the back half of the car apart and drop the gas tank like many cars. It just seems like everything on that Vette is easy to work on....

I have every thing that I need except the spark plug wire which goes from the spark plug to the coil. It seems like this would work.
What do you think?
Let's put that sucker in a Foamy...!!!

I always had one in the glove compartment, and I used at least 2 in the life of that slant 6.
They just don't make them like they used to..........thankfully!!

Slant 6...Wow a stroll down memory lane. I had one in a 1969 Plymouth Valiant, great car and I loved the 225 Slant 6....!!!

Hot rod or car craft did a slant six build several years ago. Intercooled and turbocharged making 450+HP. Not bad for 229ci. IIRC the regular slant six was 225ci and the "super" slant sides were 229ci. Could be wrong on that.

RCU's tech staff is working hard to get their site to work properly. This was a duplicate post for some unknown technical reason.

Hey W8YE, it is making double posts all by itself. You've got a "gremlin".
