Default Correct carb for older 3W-75

Kids can be a real PITA when they are playing where they shouldn't be with stuff they are not supposed to touch.

I took the carb off the engine, disassembled it, soaked it, dried it out, and laid the parts out so I could reassemble it. Unfortunately right after that I left town for a couple of days but the kids didn't.

It seems they were playing in my shop for at least one day and among the things no longer as I left them was this carburetor and the wing to another plane. Vast quantities of parts have been missing ever since and I have finally given up locating them (took EVERYTHING out of the shop looking) and have surrendered to the need for a carburetor. The wing has long since been rebuilt and rekitted.

Can someone tell me what carburetor to order so my plane can fly again?

TIA

The SDC 80 may or may not have been on your engine but it will work as an excellent replacement

+1, the SDC 80 is / was a very common carb for engines in that size range.

You see them quite often on Ebay but for some reason the prices have soared recently. It is a very good carb though and the go-to carb for many 65 -75 CC engines. I was lucky and snagged a couple several years back at under $50 new. Prices twice that are common now.

I assume it is new. http://tewarehouse.com/ Ordered the one for the 3W and a WT-76 for my BME total with shipping less than $130.

If it is not new when it gets here, I will post accordingly.

Well, I guess they did not have it since they only shipped the WT-76. However, I found one at http://search.cartserver.com/search/...75719&go=GO%21 and ordered it. Cost plus shipping is $74 total. They told me it should be in my hands in 10 to 15 days.

We shall see.

I have a 3w75 that came with a plane I bought. I can't seem to get the motor started, I believe it is not drawing fuel to the carb. Is this possibly a diaphragm issue? Motor has not been run for over a year. It has a Tillotson carb on it.

I am not as familiar with Tillotson as Walbro, but that sounds right. Pull the fuel line right at the engine and make sure the gas flows freely before you go hunting a diaphragm.

So I read in another forum to open up the diaphragm and rub oil on the carb side, then re-install. That worked!! Engine is running like a charm, and TONS of pull! Very loud too!

I mean the part of the rubber diaphragm that is physically touching the main body of the carb, not the cover plate. Rubbing oil on that seems to renew the rubber and seal it so it will pump the fuel up from the tank. Thats the issue I had, no draw to the tank.

+1 On that , if you need to make the diaphragm pliable with oil to get it to work , it really needs replacing .

Certain oils can cause the pump flapper valves to stick to the carb housing after a carb sits unused for awhile. This can happen even though the diaphragm is quite soft and pliable. In this case, the oil smeared on the diaphragm could help to get the engine running. Frankly, if this is the problem, just removing and reinstalling the diaphragm resolves the issue as the valves are then free to move once again.

3W historically used Tillotson carbs.

I switched mine out to a Walbro. Easier to get parts for locally.

I spent just a few minutes on Google, did a search under "Walbro SDC-80-1 carb" and turned up several vendors that show the carb in stock. Usually around $70 to $75 these days. They're still out there if you look a bit.

I was in my shop and it occurred to me that I have TWO of these! One is for sale at $70 + shipping (probably less than $10). This is brand new. I ordered one for a vendor and 4 months later (after not getting it) ordered from another vendor. You guessed it, they both showed up the same week..

Thank you, thank you, thank you Jim Branaum for selling me the Walbro carb!! What a difference! My Weeks Solution is running tops right now with the new carb! Definitely worth the conversion!
