I am looking at the FG90R3 for a Scale project. Please post your experiences as you get this engine running. So far, I am not feeling warm and fuzzy about the feedback!

Just heard back from Horizon sounds like the master rod broke and did some other damage. They replaced a couple pistons and a linknrod. Also the timing pin broke.
I sent it in on Monday last week and it on its way back a week later after waiting on parts for a few days. Awesome service thanks Horizon!

Default Fuel spraying from carburator

I'm just wondering, are there any fuel spraying from carburator into area behind engine box which is inside fuselage? Mounting engine requires cutting a square hole in firewall for rear facing carburator to protrude into the back of engine box which is inside airplane.

I got my engine back from Horizon. Here is a picture of the master rod.

I remounted the engine and ran it per the video Raptormasque clued me into a couple pages back.
I was able to get the rpms in the range the video shows.
I did not interpret the instructions the way the video shows.
Ran 28oz through it and it still works!
I checked the temps while it was number one was at about 220, 2 an 3 were very cool at about 60.
About halfway through number 3 jumped to 140 for a bit then dropped back down.
With it so rich not sure the temps mean to much?
I will run another tank to complete the break in.

Can only recommend that when you break in the engine you mount and run it with all 3 cylinders in top position. Make your test stand so you can rovolve the engine 120 degree.
You will never get the bottom two cylinders broken in.

Horizon Hobby actually provided you with a photo of the failed Master Rod? If they did, they must have changed their repair policy!

Have an 84 with Ray English mods and a 90.
90 spins a 22-12 3 blade like it's not there. Noticeable power increase.

I have the engine mounted in the plane but I think I can set the plan in my stand and run it upside down, and even rotate it a bit.
I will test it out and see if that will work comfortably.

After break in, will the cylinders all run the same temps?

NO. Its still a radial engine. And gravity makes heavy oil fall to the bottom two cylinders.

I was able to get the second break-in run on my engine again today.
I had the plane in the cradle upside down and could rotate it so that the one cylinder was high.
rotated it every couple of minutes and the high cylinder would heat up.
After the break-in run I let it cool down and then set the needles to normal and ran it again.
Ran smooth to and got about 5500rpm.
I did not have the time to tune it, so I just ran it for a few minutes.
The cylinder temps were #1 220, and 2 & 3 were about 180.
Over all pretty happy.
Now I will check the tappet clearances and set about the fine tuning!
I also need to take a shower with the plane upside down and running rich I was covered in oil!

Just did some more bench running of my Ray English modified 84, it now has about 3 tanks through it, all cylinder temps are 180-200. 22-12 Belia triple around 6000. Replaced the plugs after the 2nd tank, adjusted the valves, etc. Great motor, will fly it in a TF FW-190 next week. Running Redline oil with Sunoco 110 race gas at 20:1

What is the RPM you are seeing? where'd you get the 3 blade prop from? specifically, what is the prop?

I have had good luck with the saito 60, so far, but it's no powerhouse. If I had confidence the 90 was going to be reliable and made good power I'd pull the trigger today on one. Se la vie...

Luckymacy; what aircraft do you have the FG60 installed in? I purchased the FG60 to install in the TF FW-190 but later decided to purchase the FG90 and save the FG60 for smaller aircraft.

had it in a TF P-47 but it was too anemic for me. Put it in a 50CC Yak since the Yak was much lighter and had much lower wing loading. It actually flies the Yak pretty 'scale' and I flew the snot out of it last fall, tried to kill the engine and couldn't.

May be a dumb question but how would this engine do in a 3D plane? Like a 70cc Mamba?
