Default idle on dle20

Running 2nd tank through new dle 20cc 16x6 prop, model on hold down
wings attached to lessen vibration. Maybe too early to be concerned I
am having trouble getting decent idle. Do not consider myself an "engine
guy" although in hobby long time. Some of you guys love tuning these
machines. In the past had little trouble with larger gassers (38 to 62cc)
Any words of wisdom ? not to worry ? Thanks too much
Built small extra (60-90) why do I do things like this ?

"Big Planes"; easier to build see and fly

Why are you using such a small prop? 16x8 17x6 are good.

Always use the prop and fuel from day one that you will be using later. If you get it perfect then nothing changes.

What do you think a "decent" idle is?

I will tell you what I think a decent idle is:
1. engine idles forever.
2. engine takes the throttle smoothly without dying.
3. rpm and pitch combo allows for slowing for landing.

That is what I want, what are you trying to get? ( tethered you won't be able to judge # 3)

Have you tuned the high end? (it is always first)

When I said not an engine guy I was displaying some modesty. This little engine
quits before I can idle it down to not taxying away. A nice idle is quiet, tail feathers
not shaking I can have a normal conversation standing at model. Problem due to
my not having enough patience. Have had great engines and some real losers also.
I will however work it out and thank you for your concerns.

It will get better as you get some time on it and your low speed adjustment is refined. Early on, it needs to be rich enough where it may seem pretty lumpy on idle. Real warm weather doesn't help a thing....

Small capacity gassers especially when new will never give the nice slow tick over idle you were accustomed to with your larger gas engines. IMHO anything between 1,800- 22,00 with the model not moving should be satisfactory and as the engine breaks in it should get better.

just for conversation I bought this little p51 from H.9 complete with 8cc evolution gasser (can fly as trainer)
has "MEG" written on cowl. Engine started right up and has this crackle pop sound, neat. Flew it with medium
safe tech. and would not roll because of this selection. In hobby over 25 yrs FIRST military model. It was cheap
and the recommended gas/oil was 20 to 1. Wing span 56" this is not a foamy, not retracts, all servos and
everything else installed, just join wing panels permanently. Next flight without any gyro crap.
