Larry,

I have mostly all DLE, OS and DA Gas engines. I did have one Evo 33 mounted inverted in a H9 Beaver. I had no problem with running the engine that way. They tend to be a little sloppier when you choke them, as the carb opening points down and you'll have some gasoline dripping from time to time. But actually, no different than my DLE-40 Twin, which has the carb on the bottom of the engine.

It doesn't matter, the 33 mounts sideways and uses that wrap around because its intended to be an easy float conversion and they didn't want the cylinder hanging down in the water spray.

Just finished balancing--with DLE 30 rear carb and elevator servos in the rear, I had to add 8 ounces of weight even with the batteries as far forward as I could get them.

I'm using the stand offs that came with the DLE--may look at getting some from PSP a little longer so that I could remove some of the weight.

I am using the 4-1/2 inch balance point from the manual.

The Metal holding the tailwheel failed just below the Rudder......normal grass landing, snapped off where there are no bends. Seems to be very brittle metal. Have the replacement to be installed in the next day or so.

If you take the time to trim the plane's CG, according to any common practices (there are a few!), thinking you're going to find the suggested CG is way forward of where it needs to be once past the maiden and real early test flights. Point being, some of the 8oz will be unloaded as the CG gets moved back. I wouldn't be too worried about it at this point. You may even be able to remove the 8oz completely!

How does it fly with the electric set-up? Did you need weight anywhere?

No weight required as there is plenty of space to move batteries fore/aft to achieve CG. Flies great on P160/10S setup. So much power that I'm thinking that a lighter P110/8S may be interesting as well.

Cheers

Marksp,

My three LiFe batteries are mounted right under the leading edge of the wing, with the throttle servo right next to the batteries. I'll try to get a photo and post it, if it'll help.

Here's a photo of where I mounted the throttle servo, for the DLE-40 Twin.
