EVO62 or Zenoah G62?
Need a little help to decide which way to go. All comments welcome. I have experience with the G62 but how does it match up with the Evo 62? Thanks for your consideration.

Have both. Actually flew both in the same plane.
No issues with the Zenoah but the muffler was clunky and required a lot of cowl hacking. But the damn thing ran every time I flipped the prop, sit for a week, sit for 6 months, didn't matter. Choke flip flip pop, choke off flip run.
The Evo pulls a little stronger. Starting has been equally reliable, and a JTech pitts got the muffler out of the airstream.
Edit: I attached the article I did on the Evo

G62s are renowned for durability and longevity. I have three, all 15+ years old and hundreds of flights. I have never done anything other than rebuilding the carbs. All have been involved in major crashes and ran fine afterwards. So it is a question of how long you plan on using the motor. By the by, most people do not prop a G-62 correctly. it is a piston ported engine and wants to be propped for RPM. We use a 20x10 or 21x8 prop on our warbirds, 20x10 Menzlik runs especially fine. They are consistently the fastest models at events. Let the engine sing and it will respond with plenty of power.

I've run both and the Evo has a little more power but not enough to rule out the G62 . If you need the nose weight the G62 is over a pound heavier. If you want a cleaner install on a narrow cowled aircraft the Evo has a rear carb

Are you saying that Zenoah redesigned the G-62 for the EI unit ? Why would they do that ? Why would it be necessary ?

Not sure what they did to the Z series w EI.
But mine did not swing the Apc T6 w high revs like the 3 other magneto motors that I own.
So IMO just stick w good old magneto version and not worry about saving a few oz weight.
peole that use G62 are not worried about nose weight for those warbird application anyway.

Has anyone checked the timing on the Z series G62? Maybe a simple timing increase would restore the lost performance. Mag engines converted to EI actually get a bit of a performance boost as the maximum timing is advanced from the fixed mag timing that is a compromise between starting and running. Regardless, Horizon doesn't push the Zenoah line much these days like they once did. No Z series engines have shown in inventory for some time.
