Default Avgas in gas engines to reduce gas smell

Anyone running Avgas in their gas engines to cut down on the gas smell?

When I had my own plane, there was a gas dealer at the airport that would deliver gas to planes while they were still hangared. I had what they call a "Mogas" permit, that allowed for the use of automotive fuel in your plane (even gas w/ethanol). Anyway, the fuel truck driver could tell if I had been using "mogas" by the smell of the fuel when he opened the filler caps. Point being, there's no myth, you can tell the difference by the smell reduction.

I run DLE 20 and a DLE 36RA on 100LL I think they run better, cleaner and smell better.

Yes , been using exclusively 100LL in all my gas planes from 15cc to 105cc for the last 2 years. There is much less odor and the planes actually start easier and run more consistently than when I was using 87 or 93 octane. The aviation fuel seems to stay fresh longer .

Some people fly five times a day. While others fly five times a year. Both cases present differences in engine life and maintenance. Engine life is also related to fuel and other factors. Avgas will burn in our engines, but, it is not recommended.

I error on the side of caution, and use the recommended fuel.

I hear that electric has no smell.

I asked the DLE people if it was safe to use 100LL, they said it was ok. Wouldn't make any difference in power but would be cleaner. Now when I drain my sumps instead of putting it back in the tanks I put it in a gallon gas can.

One of the advantages of avgas being overlooked here is the absence of ethanol and having better stabilizers. The former (10% in pump gas in most places) hardens tygon lines and the diaphragms in the Walbro carb, and leads to slow corrosion of the brass orifices/jets in the carb. The avgas is excellent long term. Regarding the second, if you don't use all your gasoline one season, the avgas mix is ok the following season if it has been stored in a cool place and kept sealed.
