Default Mix ratio and startup

Does an oil-rich mixture make start-ups more difficult than a leaner mix?

Not in my experience. These ignitions, despite their compact size, pack quite a punch. If your batteries are charged, and ign. cap is fully installed, ignition systems are rarely an issue.

I didn't qualify my question: the engine is a magneto equipped, Zenoah G-26 and the gas was approximately 6 months old mixed at 32:1 which started regularly with an electric starter as hand starting was very difficult. I recently tried with fresh gas at lower oil content (50:1) and was able to hand start - at best - 25% of the time which is slightly better but not great.

A lot of times when you run into hard starting issues, you can fatten up the low speed a hair, and the engine becomes an absolute sweet heart to start. Doesn't take a lot.
