Default G26 with tuned pipe

For you G26 owners who don't mind running the engine at what the factory says is the power range.....I put a Mac's products tuned pipe on my G26,18-6 Mejzlik prop, went from 8500 with a Slimline Pitts style muffler to 10,000 with the pipe..Gasoline, 50-1 Amsoil racing oil, My ignition, 7000 feet altltude, 70 degrees temp...YEE HAW [8D]...I fly at our local airport so noise is not a problem, but Mac's says the quiet tuned pipe is almost as good....

The pipe is #1195, list price $77.95
The header is #4150, list $31.95..
I cut 6 inches off the header..It worked so well I haven't tried any more tuning, but I will later...The idle is around 1700, great transition, no dead spots all the way up....

Good to know Ralph. What is the AUW of this combo? Could the engine be shaved down some? Think it could turn an 18-8 at a respectable RPM? 10K is such awesome news!~)

Engine, pipe, prop, ignition (inside the rear casting), and battery is 3 lbs 10 oz.. The flat plate mount weighs 4 oz. so if the engine was mounted without it the weight would be 3 lbs 6 oz...There is some extra weight, maybe about 2 oz, in the castings...3 lbs 4 oz is possible.....
No way on the 18-8 prop, not enough torque to get it into the power band..Same with a 20-6...

Hey, that's good news. I've got both a 1095 and a 1195.

BTW, would the pipe tuning on the the G26 be different if run on glow? I was under the impression that it would be a little different due to the different exhaust gas velocities, but I'm not sure.

Could be, will try it tomorrow..The G26 picked up 600 on glow without the pipe, that would put it at 10,600 [8D] A WT499 G23 glow carb works with either fuel....I have a WA 125 3/8 venturi carb on it now, from an old G 23...The stock WT 645 (7/16) is touchy...
Maybe the pipe is too long, but it's hard to put the length back on..Will try a little at a time tomorrow....

The old Webra Bully is still one of the best...I think the old 3W 35 piston port is basically the same engine, the cylinder fits...

Thanks Ralph, please let us know what the lbs are. This might be a great combo in a 2mx2m built up pattern plane like the Joe Bridi 2 X 2. Any way we could trim a pouned off the G26?~) lol.

Should the timing be set at 28 deg like others when putting electronic ignition on a G23.
Thanks

Ralph can you give us the length of the header from the exhaust port to the end of the header. I have a ES carbon pipe and have been running a 12 in header. I started a 14in. I'm a little disapointed in the out come so far. I'm using a APC 17x8N. I started at 8100 RPM at 14in it now turns 8750 at 12in but thats all I can get out of it. I too want to use it in a 2x2 pattern ship I have the air frame built all up weight is 10lbs. Does 8750 sound like enought or do you think I need to cut more off the header? Also my throtle response act's like it is lean but it's not

10,000 sounds great until you see that Ralph is at 7000 ft. To get the 10,000 RPM anywhere near sea level you are going to need to prop down to a 16 x 6 or at best a 17 x 6. I don't think you are going to see those kinds of RPM numbers at sea level but you should be getting as good or better thrust at a lower altitude.

10,000 IS great...I took a G26 to Kingman, AZ, elevation, 4000, same rpm, 9000 without the pipe...My experience with my G62 is 400 rpm LESS here in Williams than in Phoenix, elevation 1000.....A 16-6 would be ridiculous, same with a 17-6..I'm guessing rpm with a 16-6 would be between 11,000 and 12,000......Sure, more rpm, but less thrust from the smaller diameter..If we get 17 1/2 (measured at the tail wheel, been there) another 1000 rpm could only be better...Haven't measured it...A 16 is a waste of engine, just too small for any G26, pipe or not...[8D].
Cygnet..Do a search here, Desertpig has a 9 1/2 lb H9 Ultra Stik Lite with a stock mag G26 and no pipe...You will be greatly encouraged, to say the least
Bruce Hanson's 13 lb USL hovers with his G26...

www.macspro.com

Mac's pipe..Generic 25-30cc
Length 23 1/2
Header about 6 1/2
Distance from the end of the pipe to where the straight center section starts, about 9
straigh center section, 10
Tapers down from there to a 1/2 inch outlet..The taper section is about 2 3/4".
End pipe is about 1 1/4
These dimensions don't quite add up, it.s hard to get a good length when the pipe is rounded at the joints....
This is the quiet pipe, the noisy would would probably be better...

Default RE: G26 with tuned pipe

I just had to try this. Elevation for me is only 1000ft Zenoah g26. 18-6 Mejzlik prop.Electronic ignition by Rc ignition.
Engine has only about 20 oz fuel thru it. Runing havoline tcw3 at 24 to 1 with 93 gas. carb is tuned vary rich...
Zenoah exhaust. 8200 rpm.
open exhaust. 9160 rpm
Macs header #4150. Macs pipe # 1195 with a 1/2 inch spacer. full lenght. 8700 rpm
Removd 1/2 inch from header. 9000 rpm
1/4 inch. 9120 rpm
1/4 inch. 9160 rpm
1/4 inch. 9120 rpm ???
1/4 inch. 9240 rpm
1/4 inch. 9360 rpm
1/4 inch. 9480 rpm
1/4 inch. 9600 rpm
1/4 inch. This must be the wall. jump up to 9540 rpm, and droped to just over 9000 engine runing bad. just dont seem like it would drop off that much that fast. Pulled the last 1/4 inch back. and it runs like it did befor. 9540 rpm. This is a low run time g26 and is vary rich the plane is now has lots of oil on it. Have now run 16 oz at a time. letting it cool for one hr after each tank For one gal. engine is running
better now but i dont have the tach to test. Transition is good. mix amsoil saber 100 to 1 at 64 to 1. 2 oz per gal. Have not run the new gas. will in a day or two.

I sold the pipe and header to a company in San Clemente, California, to use with one of their G26s...San Clemente borders the Pacific ocean...Same prop, same rpm...

Just over one gal fuel thru it. just now ready to try amsoil. Im at 1000ft. Also useing your ignition. Thanks for any help you can give. RCERFE...
