Brison 3.2-H9 Cap 80"-RTF but.....
She's ready for air but wanted to hone in on a couple of props of choice. Currently I have BME 20x10's, 22x10's, 3w 22x10 and Zinger 22x8. Just curious what props you guys are runnin and what RPMs?? I talked to Harvey at Brison today and he likes to see the 3.2's at 7500 rpm at the least. This sounds a bit high. Reading several posts here, it seems most every body likes the high 6's to low 7's.
Let me know what yer thinkin!!!

Brison says peak thrust is acheived at about 7000 RPM. I don't think that you're gonna get that using a 22 X 10. I'm using a regular Zinger 22 X 8, but I only fly for sport.

You want to use a 20x10 prop mejlik or schimitar design.
22x10 is ok but tends to brake the plane too much on landing.
Mine also tends to over heat if out door temp and humidity are high.
The bonus of the 22x10 is the plane will fly lower stall speed and torque rolls very easy.

7100 RPM on a 21x10 Menz "S" is what works well for me.
I hope to gain more rpm after a few more gallons of gas, then I will bolt on a Menz 22x10 "S" and I'm hoping for high 6000's.
Check out this thread:

Thanks

RE: Brison 3.2-H9 Cap 80"-RTF but.....
visioneer_one,
My IE6 has a java script error so I could not reply.
My plane was light on the nose with the ZDZ 50, so I machined 0.80" x 1/2 dia aluminum spacers with 1/16" x 3/4" dia aircraft backing washers. This also allowed me not to have to cut out for the Bission Pitts muffler. I also mounted the fuel tank over the CG and made it removable for rigging with blind nuts in the fuel tank plate (the two forward screws go through the forward wing bulkhead and the two rear screws go through a rear cross support, simple). To extend the drill bit for the tight space in the foward bulkhead, drill out a small dia dowel rod and CA the drill bit into the dowel. I used this method to drill 1/16" hole in the bulk heads leading back to the tail for an internal antenna.
I am going to do a final CG tonight. I'll let you know how it CGs. Should require zero weight front to back. For the ZDZ 60 I am sure you could mount it directly to the firewall and be very close on GC.
Victor

vkmaynard - thanks for the info. I look forward to your Final Report.
(heh. Sounding like management again.)
Especially the flying part. I've got a Wild Hare Edge on order, and I think the ZDZ-60 would be better suited to it. Stick a ZDZ 50 on the Cap, keep it light, etc.

RE: Brison 3.2-H9 Cap 80"-RTF but.....
visioneer_one,
No weight required except a very small amount on the left wing tip. Moving the ZD 50-NG out 0.86" was the ticket! The cowl overlaps the fuselage by 3/16" and the Bission Pitts muffler just misses the engine box. I used a lighter 1000 MHa NiCad (vs. 1500 MHa) ignition battery (should last more than 1 hour) that is placed near the engine box and fuselage intersection. The 1800 MHa NiCad battery is placed just in front of the rudder servo under the servo mounting plate. The 20 oz fuel tank is over the CG. CG is at 6.5" for now.
Final dry weight is 15 3/4 lbs with a ZDZ-50-NG, Bission Pitts Muffler, Mejlik 22x10 prop, Dave Brown aluminum spinner, 5 Hitec 645 MG, 2 Hitec HS 422 (one for choke), FMA 8 channel Fortress RX, 1800 MHa NiCad, 1000 MHa Nicad, 2 MPI switches (with voltage LEDs), 20 oz fuel tank (2 clunks), fuel dot, and Dubro Heavy Duty hardware.
After watching this plane with a Zenoah G-42 (2 less horse power and 1.3 more lbs), I would say the ZDZ 50 is massive overkill at more than double the thrust to weight. But what do I know; I have 450 Hp '88 Mustang GT and an unfinished experimental composite airplane that I installed an innercooled, turbo charged Subaru Legacy engine instead of a VW (max level speed of 210 mph).
Let us know how your airplane turns out.
Thanks
Victor

Sounds good. I have one on order to replace my Brison 2.4 and I plan to put a NX 21x8 propeller on it.

My Brison 3.2 turns a Mejzlik 22X10 at 7260 RPM and a Mejzlik 21X10 at 7500 RPM. I have a Bambula 22X8 that I expect it turn at 7000 RPM once I actually try it...

RE: Brison 3.2-H9 Cap 80"-RTF but.....
First flight on the ZDZ 50 NG and the CAP. Wow! Unlimited vertical around half throttle. The engine started and ran perfect on the first attempt. It turned a 6900 on a Mejzlik 22x10 prop on the second tank (did not want to push it too hard running rich). Another flyer at the field has the same plane and previous ZDZ 50. He said that he is getting 1300 rpm less on a Bermula 22X10 prop.
Final 6 5/8" CG required 1oz of weight on the tail and the 1800 MHa flight battery to move behind the rudder servo. One wing required 3/4 oz to make the lateral CG centered. The stand off worked perfect. No cutting the engine box for the muffler.
Work was real busy so no picture yet.

Very Cool, VKmaynard!
I'm getting all my gear together to put mine together. I was thinking of the ZDZ 40...I'm not a full-on 3D flyer-but I want it to perform. Otherwise I was planning a lot of the same gear you used. Are you happy with the 645s? How do you think it would balance with the 40 v. 50?

This is such a nice plane , mine has a zdz 60 with a menz 24x8 and power is awesome , inverted harriers are beautiful , mine balanced perfect with the battery under the rudder servo.
It weighted 15lbs10 oz.

epc,
Is your engine mounted directly to the fiewall?
So far the 645s work great. Everyone at the field said the wheel pants need to reinforced and to remove the idle screw in the ZDZ.

Interesting that yours weighs less than the ZDZ-50 powered one! I'd thought that the finished weight would have ended up around 17 lbs or so.
Did you do anything special to lighten the airframe during assembly?
