Default Lanier 80" cap and G-45

I have used a G-45 in a great planes giant aeromaster and it flys well , not unlimited on vertical but snaps, rolls, loops, spins, are all pretty. The plane weights about 20 lbs. Will the G 45 give unlimited or close to it in a 12 to 15 lb cap232 .
thanks Paul

I have the lanier 80" (kit version). I am using a G62, weight is 19 pounds.

If you can get your weight to 15 pounds then the g45 may work, but if you look at
6 pounds engine and muffler
2 pounds rx battery, servoes
1 pound of misc (tank, hardware etc)

then your CAP airframe will have be at 6 pounds - feasable - you will have to see.

Default Lanier CAP and G45

I've got this plane (kit version) and I'm using a Brison 3.2 (52cc's). My plane weighs 17lbs-----and the engine gives terrific performance. Could probably do 3D, but I'm not good enough a pilot. I don't think you can build this plane with a gas engine at 13lbs. If you used a big glow (Moki 2.1) engine, you might be able to do so---but I've typically heard 14-15lbs with glow engines. Most people I've talked to that have used a gas engine are right at 17lbs----exceptional builders have come in around 16lbs. Nobody I've met has come in under 15lbs with a gas engine.

A G45 will fly this plane well----lot of authority. I don't think you'll get unlimited vertical or 3D----but you still will get more than enough authority to have plenty of fun. Be very, very weight conscious. If you haven't built this kit previously, be aware that it tends to build tail heavy (all CAPs do). Because the plane tends to build tail-heavy, most people have had to add noseweight to get the CG right. For example, don't put the rudder servo's in the back (push-push) like the plans show. Instead, use a pull/pull set-up and put the rudder servo(s) all the way forward. Try to minimize any weight aft of the wing----use less wood in the turtledeck, eliminate the bottom sheeting of the fuse aft of the wing. Use the minimum amount of glue in sheeting the tail feathers. Speaking of CG, the plans show CG centered on the wing tube. For most flyers, this is too far aft. For your initial flights, put the CG 1" forward of the front edge of the wing tube. As you become more comfortable with the plane, you can move the CG back in small increments.

With the "right" CG and overall setup, this plane is a real joy to fly. It is a totally honest plane with wonderful slow flight characteristics. It will do the prettiest knife edges you will ever see. If you want any additional thoughts on building/setup of this plane, send me an email. Have fun,.......WarpedWing.

I bought my cap built from a buddy.

"Warped Wing" list of items of the Lanier Cap is right on and reflects the exact same issues my buddy had with his Cap.

I have a Midwest Extra with a G45. While it will go vertical, it is not unlimited. I am turning a 19/10 propeller. I will probably go with a 20/8 and see if it improves.
