Big mess with MVVS 2.15!!!!
Whoever said that Gas is cleaner than Glow never saw this MVVS2.15 I have! I've been running it on the bench to get it tuned properly and broken in before I install it in my Kangke Waco Bipe. There is black oily crap all over the prop and the engine, not to mention my test stand. It seems to be tuned pretty well. I'm running 93 Octane with 40:1 Mobil 1 synthetic 2 stroke oil. It will idle at 1600rpm with a Master Airscrew 20x10 and hit just about 8K.
I did notice that when running around 4800rpm that the propwash seems to be sucking gas out of the carb. Any ideas on how to improve this? I'm almost hesitant to put this in a plane if it's going to crap up the inside of the cowl real bad.
TIA!
Bob

I also cannot figure out why all the small gassers I have owned blow a considerable amout of black crap out the exhaust.... Latest is the MVVS 1.60. Love the engine but still messy after 2 gallons. MVVS rep said it will take about 6 gallons to break in and clean up... YUK

RE: Big mess with MVVS 2.15!!!!
It ain't just the small ones. []I have a 100and an 80-cc that spits the black goo all over both my planes also. [:@]I even had a thread about it and everyone said it will stop when the engine is broken in. Well I would think 10m gallons through an engine would brake one in. NOT the darn things still spit out the stuff. AND I also have a 4.8 sach and a 4.2 and a 3.2 that ALL DO THE SAME. Your not alone with this one. But I will say it is a lot easier to clean up than the Glow oil.

Hi Guy's
The 1.60 Red Head MVVS is the same, the engine will breakin and at that point the engine sould be leaned out .
By checking the spark plug if it's too rich the plug will be black if it's grey/white it's too lean and if set correctly it should be slightly brownish.
Learn to read the spark plug it does give you a clear indication as to how the engine is performing
Then the engine will be set properly and there should be a minimum of mess on your airplane. As you say no more GOO!

Sorry boy's but I don't think my engines are running rich. I have them tuned for max rpms' at the lowest run temp. 180 to 190. All crank effortless and run great. I have tryed to lean them out low and high sides, still get the mess.

I was getting black crap on my airplane too until I switched to Amsoil 2000 racing oil, now replaced by Amsoil Dominator racing oil, mixed as per the instructions on the container at 50-1.
Is that 180 to 190 degrees celsius or fahrenheit?
180 degrees C or 350 degrees F is a good head temp.
Thanks
John

I just got my MVVS 2.15 today (Thursday),,, the manual, or paper that came with it said to brake it in for an half hour rich on 40:1, after that use 50:1 and then set the needles for peak power,,, that sounds like a very short brake-in period, I think I will take my time with it,,,
my friends BME 105 spit black stuff for just about 5 gallons then it stopped.

Ah, That would be 180 fahrenheit, Johnny. "Gray, Georgia", think about it. we just got indoor plumbing down here. And I don't even know any celsiuses, and what does a basketball team have to do with the temp of a head? Just kidding !

I ran mine for an hour or so at 25:1 then went to 40:1 Mobil 1 2 stroke after that. This ratio was recommended by Pe Reivers on another thread. He stated he got best performance at 40:1. He is an MVVS Distributor in the Netherlands.

Meesh
Pe states that the engine should be run for the first half hour at 25/1 oil mixture content. There after he recommends 32/1 thus the engine has plenty of oil to keep it well lubricated and cooler.
[hr]
It is the manual that states the oil content should be 40/1.
This mixture setting must be your own preference, I would take Pe's advice over anyone else, as without a doubt he Know's these engines inside out and not only that he is a great advocate of MVVS as he uses them himself.
The oil recommended is Mobil 1 - 2T you should use this oil but it must be said that it will not stop the black GOO! until it's run in and the needles are set properly

RE: Big mess with MVVS 2.15!!!!
The reccomendation to replace the con rod adter 30 hours is not supported by the factory. The only recorded instances of failures are on the glow versions of the engine, which have, up until recently, had needle bearings at both ends of the con-rod. Apparently the oil used in glow fuel is not sufficient for these bearings. The glow versions of the engine are now supplied with bronze plain bearings.

RE: Big mess with MVVS 2.15!!!!
Gas and oil fuel, 50 or 100-1, less than 3 percent oil..Live forever..
Glow fuel in a bushing engine, about 16 percent oil..Or in the case of FOX glow fuel, 22 percent oil..More oil causes bearing failure ?
We run 8% synthetic oil in our two stroke GT 80 racing engines, turning 11,500 rpm...No bearing failures...No pressed in thin shell bearings....[8D]
Anybody remember Fox Lustrox ? Used for breaking in the tight Fox pistons to the iron cylinders..You put a small dab in the intake when running the engine..When the exhaustcame out clear the engine was broken in...Probably wouldn't be a good thing in a needle bearing engine...Or an old motorcycle trick, a little Bon Ami in the intake of a 4 stroke...FAST break in.....

Mabey castor varnish is fouling bearings? I don't know, I just fired off a rather alarmed e-mail to the MVVS factory regarding this issue, and that was thier response.
