Brison 4.2 whats the best fuel???
I RAN A GALLON OF 100LL THRU MY ZENOAH G-62. I NOTICED NO PERFORMANCE ADVANTAGE. IT WAS A LITTLE HARDER TO START TOO. SAVE YOUR MONEY. CITGO OR EXXON 93 OCTANE WORKS VERY WELL, AND THEY ARE EVERY WHERE.

To do this gas is replaced with a slower burning compound, in fact lead doesn't burn at all. Another trick was to inject water into the manifold, water doesn't burn either. However Av gas has a very high lead content, and you gas engine was designed for unleaded fuel, therefore there could be some serious problems with lead buildup. If you don't like the smell of gas you could try Colemans fuel. It is pure naptha, the principal component of mogas, and av gas has even more naptha which is one reason why it costs more and smells less.

Use regular, unleaded gas, not premium. Break it in with Lawnboy Ashless (about 5 gallons) and then switch to Amsoil 100:1 mixed at 100:1 or Amsoil 50:1 mixed at 50:1.

I would be absolutely shocked if someone could show some evidence (any ?) that 93 octane unleaded caused their engine to run hotter or with less power than 87 octane. I'm not saying that your engine will necessarily run better with high octane - just that I can't believe it would run worse.

High octane gas has less btu per gallon. Therefore if your engine doesn't need the octane it will have worse power and gas milage. Not much, maybe not very noticeable, like maybe the differance with your AC on or off.

Hey Sport_pilot:
High octane gasoline (93 octane) does not have less btu/gallon or give less mileage than low (87) octane gas. There is only a slight difference in the BTU, but according to the petroleum engineers at chevron, high octane has higher BTU. Take a look at this citation:
http://www.chevron.com/prodserv/fuel...gas/ch1a.shtml

Re mixing the Amsoil 100:1 at 65-70:1 - I have talked with several engine manufacturers and Amsoil reps - whatever oil you use, use it at the recommended mixing level. Otherwise, you will end up with a carboned up engine.
As for the fuel smell - you can use coleman fuel - it doesn't smell as much as gasoline.
Here's another opinion: As far as premium/regular - I've tested both on several engines - didn't see any of the claimed advantages using premium - no increased rpm, smoother idle, easier starting, lower idle, etc. I now run regular in all my gas engines.

Fuel
This question keeps poping up, and the answer is the same all the time.
Use regular for most power and coolest running. 330 deg 6800 rpm
Use Colman fuel if you cant stand the smell of gas. +10deg temp -50rpm
Av gas is last choice, way to much lead even if its 100LL. +20 deg - 50 rpm
I spent one day running an 3.2 on regular gas, Colman fuel and Av gas. The numbers don't lie and were repeatable.

Hey Geistware,
I always ran VP racing fuels in my drag car and the gas has a sweet smell, nothing like pump gas. Go to their website. They have any Octane you want from 86.3 on up. I dont know if all their gas smells sweet but a phone call would tell you where to buy it and if it smells like racing fuel or pump gas.

Thanks for the info on the fuel additive. I have a friend here who gets sick from the smell of gas and was thinking of trying it, I will pass it on.

Clarence Lee and Coleman fuel
G. F. Reid,
Do you have a web address or source for Clarence Lee's advice concerning the use of Coleman fuel in place of regular gas?
Thank you.

Jim, I can find one but it may take me a while. Mr. Lee, as far as I know, doesn't 'do' computers.
I have a good 15 years worth of RCM magazines that I'd have to dig through but I'll give it a look see.

Well lo and behold, I only had to look through 5 mags to find an example. The issue is August 1985.
The question to Mr. Lee (paraphrased) was as follows "...You have mentioned in your articles about running ....white gasoline....I was wondering what.....advantages white gas has over unleaded."
Clarence Lee's answer in full....
"Unleaded gasoline has a lot of additives to raise the octane rating for automotinve use. In a model engine these cause a build up of hard carbon, strange looking goo, etc. Octane is of no importance in a model engine and plain old white gas (if you can find it) actually burns cleaner forming only a soft carbon build up tha can be cleaned up with steel wool or similar. Additives in unleaded gas sometimes form a hard carbon that practically takes a cold chisel to remove. White gas is also a lot less "stinky" to use. If for no other reason I would prefer it due to being less smelly. The chain saw engines will fun fine on white gas. The only disadvantage to using white gas is the cost. Around here it is $3.50 a gallon aversus about $1.25 for unleaded. If you can't find white gas, you can use Coleman fuel, but it is pretty expensive. "
