ZDZ 80 Inline Twin
A clubmate has a barely used ZDZ 80cc inline twin engine and is offering it to me at a reasonable price for a giant P-51 project I may initiate. Anyone have experience with this engine and care to comment? Particularly, what did you do to ensure reasonable airflow and cooling to the rear cylinder?? Carlton Campbell

RE: ZDZ 80 Inline Twin
Carlton, I have 3 of them running now. One is in a big P51 with some modifications. I had to recess the firewall almost 11in. The air scoop under the spinner is fine for the front cyl., I made a NACA style scoop and a duct for the rear cyl.. Then I sloped the bottom of the firewall backwards to 2 large openings in front of the wing saddle for exit air. You will have to make an inspection door appx 3in long on the top right side of the cowl for access to the needle valves on the 2 carbs. Its a little bit of work, but nothing sounds like an inline twin....Have many flights with this setup and no heating problems.

One more question, Lenny; what are the weights of your planes? The RC Showcase website indicates this engine is good for 22-30 lb planes, but they are also talking about aerobatic planes. I've got a Nosen P-51 kit, and they have a reputation for being a bit heavy. Carlton
