G62 help
I have a g62 mounted inverted. The problem I am having is on long up lines, or when the airplane is inverted(engine right side up) the engine RPM drops off. The engine idles and transitions well from idle to 6200 RPM at WOT. When the airplane is back in straight and level the engine rpms recover all most immediately.
I would also like to hera what you pilots like to run for a prop on a g62>
I welcome any help or suggestions.
Fuel: unleded regular
oil: amsoil 100:1
CH Ingition
Prop: Master Airscrew 22x10 6200 RMP @ WOT
Regards
Cameron

RE: G62 help
Hi,
The most common cause for this is a change in air flow around the carb when inverted. A change in angle of attack changes the air flow through the cowl. This effects the pressure sense port on the carb. A simple shield to block prop blast corrects the problem. Be careful not to block the port.

RE: G62 help
I run a Menz Ultra 22-10 at about 7200RPM with 40:1 mix.
A Pro Zinger gets about 7000RPM
Bambula 22-10 was down near 5700RPM
Bambula 22-8 was about 6500RPM--maybe 6600RPM
Menz S was 6900RPM.
Get your engine speed up in the 7000RPM range on the ground.
I am blown away that your only getting 6800RPM. I am running my engine at 8000' above sea level and I can get 7200RPM up here in the thin air.
Oil makes power--to a certain extent. If you can't get those RPM out of your engine--consider a 50:1 or a 40:1 mix on the gas. Just my opinion--and not to try and start another oil war--but IMHO 100:1 isn't enough oil. Thats like a shot glass of oil in your fuel jug[X(].
40:1 is 3.2oz per gallon
50:1 is 2.56oz per gallon
I've read posts--LONG AGO--about some of the guys running 100:1 mixes and getting hot on high RPM runs or hot days. If they ran full out for any length of time--the engine was overheating. The solution was to richen the high speed needle. More fuel = more cooling; was the consensus.
B.S. all that does is ruin the transition and foul the plug.
Put some gosh-darned oil in that thing and you can tune it to run full throttle for 20 gallons straight without ever overheating.
I'm not saying oil ratio is your problem in this instance. I concur that it is the vent hole in the carb. and that blocking the airflow from turbulating around it will solve the problem.
But, your numbers do seam low to me. I'd consider changing the oil ratio and see if you get anymore power out of it. You may just be pleasantly surprised.

RE: G62 help
Thanks to everyone for the great suggestions.
I did talk to Terry at CH inigtions, and I advanced my timing and leaned the hight speed needle. I am now at about 6500-6700 RPM range. I am going to advance the timing a little more and also lean the high speed neddle some more also.I want to make sure I make small steps so that if I end up going backwards I can go back the the previous setting.
I still need to figure out a way to shield the air reference hole.

RE: G62 help
WE found that on heavier planes like the super lazy ace 96" span bipe the zinger 22/6/10 is a great performer we used two of these planes for our air show team with over 400 flights till we finally wore the airframes out... no the g62 resides on my giant aeromaster and in the transition i pulled it apart and did some serious modding to the transfers, piston lightening and some port timing adjustment. it will now pill this bird vertical... the stock ignition is pretty much fool proof unless you like changing batteries.... dont get me wrong..... the electronic ignitions are great things but with the recoil starter on a g62...why bother

RE: G62 help
When I have ran into the problem with the vent for the pump in the carb I drilled out the hole and silver soldered a short piece of brass tubing and connected a piece of large fuel tubing and roughted it to a neutrol pressure spot in the fuse. Also might want to use a vilocity stack to keep a positive pressure at the carb.
