YW engines
Does anyone have any experience with YW engines? They make a YW-24 and a YW-48 twin. A company in Florida is the US distributor, Genesis I think. Not much info on their site and no one around here ever heard of them. Not a bad looking engine, but inside a cowl at 100' in the air looks don't count any more. [&o]

RE: YW engines
I have two YW 48 twins. One is in a World Models Extra and the other in a GP Christen Eagle. Both engines tun very well. The only problem is the mufflers can distort if tightened too much and come loose. There is a fix which involves gluing the muffers on wi5th JB weld.
Overall good engine. They start easilly and have good power. My Extra has good vertical performance and is very smooth (very little vibration).
Regards

RE: YW engines
Thanks guys, looks like I'm going to try the 48 twin. It will fit inside my cowl without any cutting and should do the job. I have the 32.5% Hostetler Piper Vagabond and trying to keep it scale.

RE: YW engines
I have just fitted two new mufflers to my YW 48 twin. It seems YW have addresed the muffler distortion problem. The tubes that the muffler screws go through are much thicker. You can really lean on the allen key and the muffler will not distort. I have had several flights and the mufflers are as tight as can be.

RE: YW engines
G'Day Doug,
I have only ever used a good two stroke Motor cycle racing oil at 50:1.
I have two YW 48 twins and have had lots of flying on them. I sold one of the models (GP Christian Eagle) and the engine went with it.
The other I hav in a World models Extra 300 (80" ). It flies really well, Not unlimited vertical but enough for me. It starts easily and runs very smooth.
The original mufflers had a problem in that they would distort when you tightened the mounting screws and then the mufflers would come loose. I tried everything to keep the mufflers tight. Then I got a new set of mufflers and these had much thicker tubes that the screws went through. It seems to have fixed the problem.
I would highly recommend the YW 48 twin.
Regards

RE: YW engines
I use a Mejzluk 22x8 on my GP Christen Eagle and standard good quality 2 cycle oil at 40:1.
The engine fits perfectly in the cowl and gives excellent performance with the Mejzluk. It's a very smooth running engine.
