I did a ground only run on my engine yesterday.It started and ran normally in all respects. Today it wont start. The only thing I did since yesterday was to charge the ignition battery.I obviously have either a fuel or ignition problem. I am leaning. towards an ignition issue. I have very little experience with gas/ igniton engines. How do I go about confirming that my spark/ignition and spark plug are all working correctly. I will double check the connection of the ignition wire on the soark plug. Another possible issue is that the servo operated choke isn't working. I will pull the cowl and check that if I find no ignition system problems. Any and all other ideas and suggestions would be welcomed as well as techniques for testing the ignition system. It is just hard to figure it was running perfectly when shut down yesterday and it started normally and then today.....nothing.

Also....how do I test or know if a gas engine is flooded ?

Yes, ditch the stock plug but the correct plug is a CM6

If you smell gas its probably flooded, or if you pull the plug and its soaked.

Choke, give about 1/3 throttle, flip till pops
un choke, flip till starts.

When you think your engine is flooded: unchoke, full trottle, ignition switched off and then flip twenty times. Then you can try to restart the engine without choking. And yes, always switch to premium spark plugs like NGK CM6 on the cheap engines.

The NGK plug I had in it was new with only 2 or 3 runs but I replaced it anyway. I found the heater hose clamp that I had on spark plug wasn't as tight as I thought it should be so I got a slightly smaller clamp and was able to get it really snug. Took it out in the back yard and it started with ease like normal. I'm not exactly sure what was the fix but it seems to be fine now. I also think it was probably flooded, That might be all that was wrong with it..

I am a little unsure of the proper procedure for flooded engine. It appears I have two totally different suggestions above. One says choke off (makes sense to me) and the other says choke on.

That's easy: what do we want wen the engine is flooded? We want to get air in the engine, as much as possible. So NEVER close choke, that puts even more gas into the cylinder.
Open the carburettor by full throttle and open choke, and flip the hell out (20 times). Normally you can start it without choking again after that.
Ps. i usually use choke just once a day. A good engine runs without choking again within a few hours.
