I purchased a new RCS 140 and had 2 ignition units go bad on it.First one was replaced by RC Showcase and second one was replaced by RCIgnitions Ralph Cunningham. He converted it to his Ignition system. Have not had a problem since. now it is a good dependable little engine. Has run for almost 2 years now without any problems. Thanks Ralph Stuka Jon

I also have a friend who is on his third ignition from RCS. He still gets an occasional but significant glitch to the point where he is paranoid to fly. He now suspects a receiver problem which is in for inspection/repair. It runs very well otherwise!!

Mine runs very well, had trouble at first , but it was because i had the low end too lean []. Once i got it tuned properly it purrs like a kitten .

I have one on a World Models Fun World 3D. It has amazing power for a gas engine its size. It will hover the airplane and go vertical forever. The only problem I ever had was the spark plug cap. It became loose and caused the engine to misfire. I used a small hose clamp on the cap and haven't had any problems since. It is a very nice engine. I believe your friend should call RC Showcase and discuss the problem with them.

FWIW, Brian.......

I use 3W or DA spark plug caps and wires, no clamp needed..They're hard to get off....

I have one that has treated me well i just ordered a Yak 54 65" profile to try it out on. I am going to put the U Can do up in the hanger for a other day it t-rolls its butt off on that bird... The Yak should arrive by Thursday of this week.

It would seem like it was running fine and then after about 5 min. runtime it would just die when throttling up from an idle. The motor actually would run better on the ground when hte low end was leaned more. But i quickly found out that the engine was just too lean, cause when i richened the low end the motor has run perfect every since .

i suppose once that heat hit there just was not enough juice there. I have those small spark plug on my 3W so I am going to look getting that cap changed over before i put the Yak up in the air.

No pics, I just got a new cap from Bobby and replaced the stock one...I think it was about 18 or 20 bucks...
Another thing on the 140, the small aluminum mounting plate under the carb is easy to bend...Once bent the pulse leaks so the carb can't pump fuel as well...The newer models migh have a thicker plate....Go easy on the wrench when tightening the carb...

Also go easy when tighening the spark plug in the head. That head is thin and the metal seems to be soft. I have installed a helicoil in mine.
The best prop I found for it was 17-8 APC

Ralph,

How does the G23 or G26 compare to this engine performance wise.

G23 nope, G26, very close.Thge 26 was slightly stronger ..The 140 is physically smaller and fits in slimmer cowls because the rear carb setup...I replaced the carb mounting plate with a thicker one and put on a 3W spark plug cap, and made the pulse hole a little more direct...Nice little engine....[8D]

I've got four of them going on a DS B-17. Only bench run so far but they seem to be great. I ran them on a 16-8 MA Classic first and then installed cut down 16-8 MA 3 blade that will be used on the B-17.

Do you use the built in Hall device? If so what is the pin - out? I would like to hook up a C&H unit to mine but they dont use standard colors on the wires. At least our standards they don't.

I don't use the syncro module on small engines, can't tell any difference...I made my own sensor and mount, a small ring pressed on to the front of the engine, with my ignition...If it's a Hall sensor maybe TKG knows about the colors....[8D]

krayzc,

Those mufflers were a real pain. I bought a mig welder and learned how to weld with it. Then I put aluminum wire in it and started all over again. I don't know if they will hold up until I use them a bit. The only way I could ever weld the aluminum was to pull the trigger and hold for about two seconds then quit. Then I would back up and overlap the next short weld on that one. This was repeated until I got all the way around the muffler. What was really bad, was that there are four mufflers on the B-17. I don't think I'm going to make any more.

krayzc,

In that picture your looking at the bottom of the engine. The will be mounted 45 degrees down to the right and the exhaust outlet will be 45 degrees down to the left. It hides the engine a lot better that way.

Hi! A good friend of mine sold me a week ago an Rcs/Moki - 140 (22ccGas) engine for my new Kyosho Spitfire .90. The engine is in mint condition , and is in the original box, with the accesories.
So i ve put her on the bench for the second test start and it runs great. In just four flips
the engine rocks , but...i realized when i tried to put on a 3-blade propeller , that the shaft was too short to mount the spinner into...! I ve put the spinner backplate , then the propeller , then the prop washer , but the shaft was at the end, and there where no thread to screw the spinner nut for my 95mm allu spinner...
The same situation for a smaller 2-blade APC 16X8 propeller with the backplate spinner on, and etc..

Anyone can help maybe?Has anyone experienced a similar situation ?
Thanks in advance
Chris
