RE: New ZDZ-80
Different bore, stroke, crankshaft, piston, crankcase, and porting.
Designed by a "Scientist".....much more powerful...so the website claims.
I hope their scientist was Gordon Blair, but they didn't mention his name.
Dick Hanson has been testing a prototype, perhaps he can make a comparison to the older version?

Yes- I have been flying one but was asked understandably, not to talk about it till it is released in the USA.
I will however, supply my results as soon as permitted.
In the meantime -here is a larger picture of it.
The ignition-presently available on all models, has onboard rpm capture feature- we used this to check accurate rpm figures in flight . The tachometer used is simply plugged into the ignition battery charge port!
using this feature -all rpm readings were instant - no "false" readings .
You can't realize how handy this is until you use one - you can set idle rpms etc., watch throttle up CURVE all without holding a tach and aiming it .
I could read exact rpm for hovers- from noting stick position and reading revs then flying slowly into a hover - throttling down and landing - then reading the in air numbers.
There are new onboard recording devices coming on the market which also do this but this setup is built into the ignition.
I will however, supply my results as soon as permitted.

Go ahead Dick there out
They must be out as I just bought one too.
Have not looked at it that close as I gave it to the person building my plane.
However I have emailed Dick asking about the different carb???
Hope to have plane flying by end of Sept, 2005

Hi Dick,
Will that thing really turn a 28-10. Thats what I have been reading overseas. Also will the standard ZDZ 80 exhaust headers fit on that one, how about the JMB cans. Thanks......

...had to fix my spelling(a pet peeve of mine). Dick might have been trying to "elude" my questions( ), but I meant allude as he correctly replied....not that anyone else cares except me.

Sorry Roger, the Blue one has now be "one upped" one by the Black one, however the Black one will cost much more, so the blue one will still be around for some time, nice motor too, however its not the Black one[]

RE: New ZDZ-80
I alluded to a modified ZDZ I have been running, in earlier posts ----which was actually this engine .
It also has been extensively tested /flown in Europe and I was fortunate enough to be asked to fly it .
As you guys already have obviously seen - on ZDZ site, it is a different engine -NOT a redo of existing 80 -
It is new from carb to front bearing - also different bore and stroke .
NOTHING is interchangable with current 80's except the 6 prop mounting bolts and front washer .
one more thing - the expected power increase & props they suggested possible --- right on the money

RE: New ZDZ-80
My son Guy flew the EDGE in an IMAC contest - we were using a 26x10 Skoerpa prop much like a 26x10 Mejzlik.
with the big JMB can -you could hear the prop . He liked that setup because he could easily hear the engine unload as it rounded out the upper part of Immelmanns and loops.
It is fun to hear an engine unload going up- we also stuck a ZDZ160 in a 35% WH weighing 31pounds -It did same thing -unloaded as it climbed out vertically . What a hoot!

.....MVVS is going to have to come out with an 80 to give them someone to compete against.
BTW, Amelung already has their new prices listed.

Nah....MVVS likes reeds. ZDZ likes rotary valves.
What's similar? Spark plug and made in the Czech Republic.

Do we want to start the reed vs rotary discussion here....nahhhh...(personally I like them both...a carry over from my karting days).

Not only do they have the prices listed, they have them in stock. 690 euros, which is about $850 at current exchange rates, plus expect to pay about $30-$40 shipping.
Here's the link if someone wants to order one: http://www.zdz-motor.de/index.html?lang=en-us
As was suggested, recommended props are 26 x 12, 28 x 10.

RE: New ZDZ-80
Dick, I need your advice. I JUST ordered a new blue head ZDZ 80 from Chief Aircraft. Couldn't get one from RC Showcase as they were out of stock. They said "may get some 80s at the end of Sept. If not, then probably in October" I didn't know about he existance of the newer version and they didn't mention which one they would be getting. My question is should I wait? I know you can't say much but couldn't you give me some sorta hint? I can wait if it's that much of a difference. Thanks in advance.

RE: New ZDZ-80
There is a difference in power - absolutely - Likely tho a fair difference in price .
The current 80 always has been a real bargain for power -
Gasoline has always been a bargain too
Take advantage of bargains -they don't hang around forever.
