Looking for a comparison of these engines. Trying to decide on engine for a DP Extra. How does the 3W compare to the others? I've found one for sale at a pretty decent price, but don't want it if it's not going to have enough power for my application. Should I go for it, or keep looking for a good deal on one of the others?

I have the 3w-24 in a 120 size Katana. If your total weight dry is 12lbs. or under,it's a great motor.Although mine is not broken in yet.My brother has the Brison 2.4 in his 1/3 scale GP Pitts. His dry weight is I think about 15lbs.The Brison weighs a little more than the 3w,but the power is close. For that size plane, the BME 50 is way too much.If your looking to do 3D with this plane,I would suggest the 3w for a gasser or the OS 1.60 for glow. The lighter the better. The Brison might be too much, but I'm not sure. This is just one mans opinion.Good luck in what ever you decide.

All the engines you named except the BME 50 are in the same class. The BME 50 is a good 20% larger than the others. Naturally the larger engine will put out more power. Go with the 50cc engine instead of the 40cc engines!

I am thinking in buying a 3w 24 for my Yellow Aircraft 1.20 Giles 300 that is on order. I think is highly underrated small gas engine. I hear that can swing a Menz 18x8 @ 8000 rpm, what prop/rpm are you getting on your one Hank68?

My motor is brand new, have'nt really had time to set it up as of late since my plant is now on mandatory overtime. But I actually got to look at it once or twice in the past couple of weeks(lol). With the 16x8 break in prop from 3w running fairly rich,it spins 7900 rpm.Bobby ay Cactus told me once it gets through break in,it should spin an 18x8 up to 8100.But the break in is about 50 hours or about 5-6 gallons of gas.Probably won't be broke in till end of next flying season,I hope.

What size fuel tank are you using and how long does it last? Do you have any pictures of your firewall/engine mount assembly? did you had to make a hole for the carb? Sorry for all the questions is that I am still choosing between spending the money on this engine or add a little more an by a 80cc for a future project.

brison 2.4
The brison is 39cc and produces about 21lbs. of thrust. I had this engine in extra when it was new and not broke in yet. I tried a 18x12 prop had unlimited vert. but would not do a waterfall. I have since changed to a 20x10 and found it to be much better, I dont know if it was able to pull throgh a waterfall with this prop cause I moved the cg back when I installed it and went into a inverted flat spin that was really flat all the way to the ground. It never came out. I now have the engine in my pitts and it is starting to breakin and make more power the brison so far will hang the pitts on the prop but the winter is here and I wont be flying again til spring. The 20x10 spins 6800 to 6900 so far and I am sure it will continue to pick up more with time.
Good luck with your plane and I hope this info helps

Re: brison 2.4
Fred,
I have this engine and I get 7400 rpm from an APC and Mejzlik 20x10 propeller. I would recommend that you get one of these propellers or get a 20x8.

Brison
Yes with the carbon prop I to get 7300 to 7400 but my engine is not broke in yet. I only have about 2 gal through it, when I get another gallon in it I will go back to the carbon for more rpm.

The carbon props do spin faster -
My little ZDZ40 turns the Bolly 21x10 at 7200- the performance is OK but it is a noisy prop.
Try some 22x12 props cut down and slimmed to about 19x12 - these work very well on light models -

I'm gettin' 6,900 rpm out of a coupla new 3W24's swinging 18 X10 APC's. They are LOUD, but I love em'. Easy to start, and can't tell the difference (in-air performance) from a G-38.

Re:Tank Size
TD1
I'm using a 16 oz. Dubro tank with the gas conversion stopper.Run time is just under 30 min.Sorry, but I don't have any pics as of yet. When I get a chance,I will try to take some and post them.Been very busy with work and hunting season is here for me.Yes you have to cut out the firewall. The carb sits just inside it.
