DA 50 or Taurus 3.2?
I know the debates on engines are non-stop, but is there anyone out there who has experience with both of these engines? I know about DA's quality and service but alot of people are raving about the Taurus too. What do you think?
Thanks

So far I haven't needed any service on my taurus. But I have called and emailed Bill at Taurus several times, he is a pleasure to talk to, and will get you a solution or answer to any problem or question you might have. There are a couple people with experience with both if you read through the Taurus threads. So far I have yet to hear something bad about a Taurus.

I have limited experience with the DA50 and extensive experience with Taurus Products as well as the DA100 and DA150. Do you have specific questions about either lil engine?
As far as customer service goes its hard if not impossible to fault either company. Good products, excellent service and great customer interaction...

I was wondering if one was more powerful, responsive, or smoother than the other? In your opinion. Do they both turn the same prop about the same RPM resulting in about the same thrust?
They are both the same price now, I know they are both quality pieces.

RE: DA 50 or Taurus 3.2?
I have owned both-- still got the Taurus 3.2. The DA has a bit more power (I think, anyway for the props I like to use) and the Taurus excells in throttle response and smoothness. Which is more important to you?
I had a bad ignition on the TS62cc I owned and crashed the 3.2 and ordered a seperate muffler for another. I know everybody raves about DA service (I never had to use it, so I can't comment), but I would like to find anybody than can say anything bad about Bill O. IN EVERY SINGLE INSTANCE he had me up and going in a matter of days.
It has been years since I bought a new Taurus, but I bet I can call tomorrow and Bill will remember me. I like that.

In one of the other taurus threads a guy weighed both the da and the taurus on the same scale with the same equipment and the taurus came out 3oz heavier... I'll see if I can find it..
check post 29 of this thread...

post 31 in the same thread gives a weight and what he weighed..

RE: DA 50 or Taurus 3.2?
FWIW. The previous Taurus engines (before Partner passing) were in our opinion on a par with any 50 cc gasser. In 05 after reorganizing we designed a new TS52 which after testing we found a power increase that would allow the engine to turn larger props without problems.
For instance, 24x8 Menz S in the 6900/7000 range. The new design can be loaded without too much concern.
Joeairport.
Engine weight s-plug,prop bolt, washer, radial mount(no standoffs) on our scale 3#5oz
Pitts style muffler 8oz sound 94dbs @ 9 feet 22x10 NX (wood) 88db 23x10
C/H Ignition box 2-3oz

If you can wait a little longer the BME 55 Extreme is almost ready...It will be really interesting..
My bet is that it will blow the rest of them away..I am looking forward to the tests...

RE: DA 50 or Taurus 3.2?
Haha! I must say I dont really understand some of the ANTI (any engine) remarks. I guess I've always been lucky as I've never had much trouble with ANY engine I've owned. Was my choice always the best for the purpose, perhaps not. As far as the topic of this thread, I have worked with both Bill at Taurus and Dave at DA. I have no issues with support from either, and know from personal experience that "my" DA-50 has never given me one minutes trouble, never been hard to start, and I frequently get comments at the field as to how good and reliable it runs. Working on my 7th gallon now. I've never run a Taurus, but I did just buy a TS-69 over another DA-50 because of the crank design and more power. Weight is not an issue in this case. If I were to go with say a G-62, it would definitely be one from Ralph at RCIGN. He's been doing it long enough to know I think.

I say go with a Taurus 52 or a MVVS 58; a buddy has the 58 and it has power! but also heavier[:@]

Only 7 gallons? Shoot, I've put more than 30 through one of my 3.2 Brisons. I don't thin k it was completely broken in until after about the 10th or 12th gallon. Takes a licking and keeps on spinning. You sure that DA is broken in yet?

Excellent! I hope I have at least 15 more gallons of trouble free service. I'm not sure it really takes much break in. Mine has been running good from the start. Do you notice any play at all in the rod bearings or wrist pin/piston fit when you turn the crank back and forth? Mine as just the slightest hint, and had it when it was new. My new Taurus has none whatsoever.
