I finally got a chance to run a Xoar 24x10 a couple weeks ago on a 75cc engine. Felt good on the bench. My friend started complaining that his arms were hurting from holding onto the plane. I was tuning a new engine and had to keep starting and stopping the engine to tune the needles. Brand new engine that had never been started and was extremely rich, so it took some time to slowly creep up on the needles and set it all up right. He told me the next day that his arms hurt.

We'll have to wait a few weeks before I can give a flight report. Got some adjustments to make first.

I have played with these a fair amount.

The most recent comparision was on a 3W-85 with a 24 pound Extra... went something like this...

26x10 PT - crawled out of a hover, overal performance was decent
26x10 Xoar - Walked out of hover with decent power - overal performance was good.
26A Vess - Jumped out of hover with authority - overal performance was good.. prop was loud though for IMAC type stuff

Xoar's overall are a good all around prop.. the newer ones are suppose to be better but I haven't tried one. They do definately load an engine up.

I'm ordering 3 of their "sword line" props for my DA 50. what do you guys think? what is the performance of the sword line like?

It's a fairly new line so there may not be many users just yet, however I think that it's just the coloured surface finish to the basic beech prop that makes the difference .

Has anyone had experience with the new "Sword" Xoar props? My question is, are they much heavier than the beechwood?

Also, it appears that Graves R/C charges $6.74 for shipping. Can anyone give me Abell R/C's, and Chief's price for shipping?

Also, from what I have read, the only advantage to the plywood laminated props is the stiffness, correct? But, they are heavier, right? Does this indeed give a slower idle RPM as opposed to the Beechwood?

Nevermind I ordered it from Abell R/C. Even though shipping was $8, I would rather pay $1.50 more so that I don't have to wait for the prop to come ground from Florida!

I have been reading this thread with great interest. Up to now, I considered Menz-S as the standard wooden prop, and stocked 3W props because of their good pull at lower rpm. The Xoar props however look very promising for allround flight.

If you want to have some fun look at the PAU laminated props. Essentially the old BME/Xoar propellers. Performance wise they hammer the standard Xoar props because of their stiffness. They don't bend and I put them up there or above the general carbon props for stiffness. They easily match or better a 3w prop at low rpm flight an perform extremely well for vertical pull outs.

If you have a few bucks that could be used to do some experimenting, these laminated props are worth your time. Blew me away when I tried them.

Just my thoughts.
I immensely value your experience concerning the use of these props.
I understand that Xoar also still makes the laminated props. I do not wish to be a dealer for many brands, and specialist at none.

The tips are very stiff indeed!!!! You can almost set one between a couple of chairs and stand on them. The stiffest wood props I had previously handled were the MSC but the laminated Xoars are in a class by themselves. They weigh more due to the laminations but you don't sacrifice anything because of it. On a par with a carbon prop weight wise.

So far I haven't used a standard XOAR prop that I cared much for. These changed that opinion of the brand.

All of the above plus the fact the laminated Xoar have to be one of the most beautiful looking props there is.
