Default Big gasser ------>to glow???

HI,
I saw a Quadra 35 the other day that was converted to glow fuel.
What is the logic in doing this?

Default glow 35

Less weight, smaller in front, more power...
Much higher fuel cost....

Default Big gasser ------>to glow???

I could'nt find the article, but MAN had a sidebar piece on gas to glow conversions in with an IMAC article a couple years ago. Their take on it was that for the 2.4 size gas engines (G23 and Brission 2.4 were mentioned) it was a decent setup. You have to carry more fuel then when running gas, so the power advantage with any gasser bigger than 2.4 would not offset the extra weight of fuel you need to carry. But on the small gassers the power to weight paid off and you got better performance with no ignition. Fuel cost was reported to be reasonbable if you could find a decent source of methanol at a local Kart or race car shop. All the methanol needed was some koltz or similar oil mixed in at a fairly low ratio. If I can find the article date I'll post it. I've had this in the back of my mind to try since reading it years ago but have never had to heart to modify my Brisson.
