RE: BCMAEngines
Thanks Andy,
I've seen your pictures, very nice aircraft. I'm officially jealous.
If you can find s/thing on the kill switch that would be great.
Thanks again,
Dan
Just for fun here's some more pics, of this Four Star 120 I'm working on, and the pontoons I built 1st, because the 4* was on "back order" for a while this fall.

RE: BCMAEngines
Here is a cut and paste from an earlier posting. This is for making a harness to plug into a solid state cut off switch. Adam sells some on his site. I haven't tried the harness with his switch yet, but will soon. No reason this setup shouldn't work. Let me know if you have any questions, and I will try to go into more detail once I am home:
I took a 6 inch servo extension:
1) Separated the 3 strands.
2) Cut the the red wire.
3) Soldered one black wire from the RCCATS switch to one half of the red wire I cut. Make sure you cover this joint with heat shrink.
4) Soldered the other black wire from the RCCATS switch to the other half of the red wire I cut. Make sure you cover this joint with heat shrink.
5) Bind the wires with small wire ties.
Now I have an electronic switch that I can plug into a heavy duty manual switch/charge jack, with the ignition battery. The other end of this electronic switch assembly plugs into the ignition module. Now I can kill the engine with the manual switch or the electronic switch. Both switches must be on to run the engine.
This setup has worked flawlessly, and it does not require me to cut up an expensive, heavy duty charge switch.
I recommend that you use heat shrink to cover the plug connections, to keep them from coming apart.

FLOATS COOL!
Andy I'll have to talk to you about that set up for the kill switch. I did some more on the jug yesterday. Then had some crainal blockage
on running fuel lines and throttle linkages. Ended up fixing my Fock Wulf instead.

That should have been set in the firewall angle. Is there a reason you think the firewall angle may not be correct? This is a plane that I too have an interest in.

RE: BCMAEngines
As Andy says the thrust angles should already be built into the plane's firewall and should not require adjustment. If they are off you won't know until you fly the plane and even then it will not be something so drastic you won't be able to land easily. If that's a flat bottom wing it's going to be difficult to determine if the up thrust is off or not as the normal method on a fully symetrical wing is to fly the plane in level flight and then go to full throttle. The plane when then follow the thrust line either up or down. If it's dead on it will remain level. Problem with flat bottom wings are they create lift so when you speed up they should climb. It should be a flat climb and not so much of a change in the plane's direction if you know what I mean. Odds are it will be great though with no adjustment needed. Be sure and get pictures.

RE: BCMAEngines
ok i answered my own question monocoupe has no pre set right thrust angle, but in my MANUAL !!! it says on their test plane 2degrees was needed with the 2.4 engine and to keep the prop centered 3/16"left of centerline per degree of thrust. So with the BMCA SPE 26 i'll want the 2 degrees with 3/8" off of center. My problem seems to be short term memory loss as i read the manual through twice .In my defence the engine mounting is the first item in the manual and i haven't got my engine yet.

Hey P-Diddy, it's the same Extra 260 on Adam's website, just a different colour scheme. I'll have to get my mate to shoot some video.

RE: BCMAEngines
Anyone know whats going on with BCMA engines? I emailed a question about their auto advance ignition units early in Dec and got no reply, Read up on the unit so I ordered one on the 18 Dec with PayPal and followed up with an email - got no reply.
no sign of my purchase so on the 8th Jan sent a follow up email got no reply. finally got an email from PayPal Shipping saying they have a shipping tracking number, which when I checked still shows only that PayPal have been notified that it will be shipped.
The website says that they were shipping up till the 21st Dec and resume shipping on the 7th/8th Jan. I've sent several emails asking when they will ship still no reply.
Has anyone else had a problem getting emails from these guys?
The website is very good and the prices seem excellent but any idea why they wont reply to emails?

RE: BCMAEngines
Dave,
I ordered a 40cc engine on Dec 18th. I called Adam last week to check on the order. He told me that he had shipped my engine on Tuesday of last week because he had run out of ignitions and had to wait them to come in. My engine showed up today. Yours is probably on the way.

RE: BCMAEngines
Dave,
Adam has always treated me great and I've never regretted a purchase. However...
Awhile back, Adam was struggling to provide the customer service he became known for when he started his business. Along came Michelle, his customer service rep, and everything returned to normal. It was just in time, because a lot of really nast posts were left on this forum making similar complaints. I had recommended BCMA to friends, and they ended up frustrated as well when the service dropped off.
Recently, Michelle went away, and now Adam is a one-man-show once again. He still provides fast turn-around on warranty or other repair service, from what I hear.
I'm also seeing and reading that the engines are no longer tested by Adam prior to being shipped. Two that have ended up in the hands of friends of mine have arrived with minor to moderate issues that kept the engines from running in any worthwhile manner. One needed to have an internal adjustment on the carb and the other had its timing ring installed very far from where it should have been, (about 45 degrees off).
I know for a fact that Adam really wants to bring the service up to where it used to be, for what it's worth.
Adam, if you're still reading this, it's time to bring Michelle back or hire someone at least part-time to keep up with customer relations.

Thanks for the pics! Have you thought about wrapping the switch in foam when you do your permanent install? This will help solder fractures from occurring from the vibration. I am a little concerned the nylon standoffs will compress under vibration. Some oak dowel cut to length works great!
