Fpe 2.4
Vince is right i have the fpe with stock ign, and it runs 6800 rpms with a zinger pro 20/8. The Brisons and fox 2.4 are getting way over 7000 rpms with same prop i am going to get mine updated to c/h ign sycrospark for another 80 bucks by the time i spend all that money i will have close to 600 bucks in this motor could have got the fox or Brison for around 475 or 500 with muffler oh live and learn the fpe motors from the 3.2 on up to 5.8 all come with sycrospark and are good running motors , i have the 4.2 and 5.8 both run very well.

Fpe 2.4
I have an FPE 2.4 . Very disappointed with its performance, runs fine but very very low RPM'S compared to others, don't believe their RPM claims not even close. My engine has fixed ignition, I'am not about to pay $80 plus shipping to up grade, making the price of the engine well over $600.

I sent my fpe 2.4 to Ralph Cunningham rc ignitions in Arizona he up dated the ign to sycrospark and put in the right spark plug loosen up the bearings and did some other things like reset timing ect it now turns a Meszlic carbon fiber 20/9 at 7400 rpms it sounds like completely different motor and transition is great from idle to high end really has the torque now i was looking for. Ralph did all this for a very reasonable price . I highly recommend this procedure . I have the motor on a Texas Hurricane which is a great flying bird. I recentily bought a nother Hurricane and will power it with a Taurus 3.2 . Oh boy cant wait. Bruce Oh by the way the ignition update increased the rpms from 6700 -6800 to 7400 rpms. Quite a improvement , The timing was set at only 15 degrees from the factory. Should have been around 28 degrees.

Fpe 2.4
I am getting about 7000 rpm with a master airscrew 20 X 10 on mine . Other people I know with the same engine are getting about the same. People claiming to getting less than 7000 rpm with a 20 X 8 either have a defective engine or a very poorly adjusted carb.

Fpe 2.4
Mine was one of the ones getting less than 7000 and i have a friend who has two of the fpe 2.4 and so then all three are defective then Ralph from rc ignitions said my timing was set at around 15 degrees , way to retarded once he worked on it and got the timing correct it runs great now, it was never defective just needed timing set correctly and tweaked. Carb adjustment was set correctly , but if timing is retarded you could have tweaked the carb for ever and it would never run any better. I have several other fpe motors and in fact was one of the first to ever buy the first of the fpe 5.8 motors many years ago around 5 years ago in fact. They are run great and have sycrospark c/h ignitions. Like i said previous mine with a 20/8 pro Zinger only was turning around 6700 to 6800 rpms.I havent run it with that prop since the got the motor back only with the carbon prop a 20/9 i would imagine it will turn a 20/8 pro at over 7500 rpms now. Wont know until it warms up in Iowa. Thanks for your replies. Bruce

Fpe 2.4
Carb is set properly on mine. I could only dream of these RPM'S getting 6200 20x10 zinger stock muffler, 5800 bission muffler 3 different tacks confrim figures. This engine dosen't even come close to manufactures claims. Have been setting engines for 30 years have a rough idea of what I'am doing.

Fpe 2.4
No problem like i said previously its a shame we have to have a new expensive motor modified to make it run i will contact Kurt the owner of fpe and see what he has to say. Kurt is a very helpful person and i am sure he would want to know whats going on here. Bruce

Fpe 2.4
I have a FPE 2.4 on my 1/4 Extra, and it has been great for me, I forgot the RPM's ( I didn't write it down ) , run a 20 x 10 Bolly. Still breaking it in, about 2 gals of 91 octane, and 29 flights. Hovers and does torque rolls. As with all things, there are exceptions, I know of a fellow with a low hours Fox, and he burned up the conrod......Could be a defect, or could very possibly be incorrect fuel mixture or oil mixture or some other operator error. Although higher octane gas is supposed to burn hotter, it is also supposed to surpress knocking in racing / high compresion / high load / high elevation conditons...I have not had any problems. I think the engine is a nice looking piece of equipment, and has a good power and torque ratio to its weight. I would recomend this engine.
