RE: Brillelli Boyz
I've been breaking my 26SS for the last 2 weeks on my CMP Giles- I'm working out a few little bugs surrounding the airflow coming off/around the cowl. For the time being I'm just flying without the cowl. I've run 4 tanks through it - usually getting 2 8-minute flights off a tank. Engine seems to be stating to loosen up a little and is turning my APC 17x6 pretty well. I'm really wanting to try something like a Xoar/NX either 17x6 or 18x6 on it to see if it will pull a little better.
Anyone have suggestions on head temps - I don't plan on leaning the motor up for at least a gallon, but I want to get some baseline temp readings as things are right now.

Personally, if you can feel it loosening, then keep the load the same. The NX or Xoar props are a LOT more load than APC's, at least in my experience, and you don't want to lug a tight new engine. Produces lots of heat, robs power, etc. etc.
I'd stay on the APC for the time being, and check periodically with a tach. You should be gaining a few r's as you go, and gradually tweak the needles.
I really recommend judging the mixture by the plug color. I can't even remember who told me that, besides Pe Reivers and some Giant Scale guys, but it's true. If WHITISH, it is lean. If blackish or oily, it is rich. Period. Tan, sort of a light-khaki is just perfect.

I think most guys check it every so often, not a lot (don't want to wear out plug threads)...and I honestly don't know if hot/cold makes any difference. It hasn't as far as I could tell.
What you're looking for is the ceramic insulator just above the tip electrode. The electrodes themselves seem to run a bit darker.

Bob - thanks much for all the advice. You need to let me know if you're going to be at any fly-in's down around Dallas and I'll drag some planes over.

Dave - a friend of mine has a Zenoah G38 on his - he loves it to death. I've flown it and it is a great fun plane to fly. The 40 is a little lighter and some people will debate the power difference, but for $25 more than a new G38 you get EI, and almost a pound lighter weight, which will mean the 40 will transplant into other planes easier down the road without incurring as much of a weight penalty.

Yep. Up to peak, back off 1/8th turn, fly.
After half gallon, check plug.
Adjust as required.
Fly more.
Don't let it be lean on top.
Don't let it be rich on the bottom.
Life is good.

Well I flew my Giles-202 with the Brillelli 40GT yesterday and boy what a difference that 40 made over the 35Gt I had before. The plane has unlimited vertical and has more power than I need. The APC 20x8 prop is give me 18lbs of thrust on a plane that weigh's 12lbs 10oz. so you can see why the vertical is unlimited. The planes wing loading is a little high so I have to keep the airspeed up on landing, but this has not been a problem. great hammer heads, knife edges, inside & outside loop, figure 8's. I love this engine on this plane. Brillelli has another winner here with this engine. Sorry for not having any video. My friends digital camera is in the shop.

I *TOLD* you you would love that motor. It is INCREDIBLE, isn't it?????
Ain't nuthin' like power that you dare NOT use, but KNOW that is available........... yee ha..........
My QQ Yak is about a week out from completion. Maybe by then will cool off enough to test hop.
AUW on it will be 12lb 2 oz..... on 1068 sq..... so I'm thinkin' it will be "okay"..........
Congrats on your "re-maiden"..........so where is the 26 going??????

Would a 40cc Brillelli be over kill on a Great Planes Giant Stick?

RE: Brillelli Boyz
I thought I would post another PRIME example of how great the customer service is on these Brillelli motors. I just got my new Xoar prop in the mail yesterday. The hole in the prop is for a 10mm bolt and the prop bolt on the 40cc is 8mm. I emailed Scott about what I should use so that I can fly with the Xoar. He siad, and I quote,
"I never even thought of that. We make a shim to go in the prop so the 10mm prop hole fits the 8mm bolt. I will get one to you."
Now that is what I call customer service.
Just thought I would share this you all of you.

tnorris,
Is that the way the Xoar props are made with a standard 10mm hole or was this a prop Scott was using and shipped it to you?

Scott did not send me that prop. It was a new prop that I ordered. The first one they sent me was a 22X8 and it had the same size hole in it. I was hopping that the 20X8 would have a little smaller hole, but it did not.

I gotat fly tomorrow and can't wait for a spacer.... so wrap electrical tape arount the prop bolt until the slack is gone. The tape is only .005 thick so your prop won't be off center. Then you can patiently wait for the spacer.

10mm is .393
8mm is .314
The prop can't be off center more than 1/2 of the difference between .393 and .314, or .039...The prop itself is likely off much of that distance from the center to each tip...
You can probably center the prop on the hub by feel almost as much as you can by wrapping tape around the shaft...
Oversize holes are not a big problem....

You beat me too it...
Most just wrap tape around the hub... Not that big of a deal.
