Anybody using carbon fiber for the throttle pushrod?
Curious what most folks use for a throttle pushrod with gas engines. The plastic tube stuff brings back memories of temp related trim changes. I know not to use metal. Am considering using this Sullivan carbon fiber pushrod. http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...?&I=LXFV44&P=7
Edit - Forgot to mention the throttle servo will be back in the fuselage near the receiver.

I also do with ball linksand have also used metal and titanium rods with ball-links on each end. I also wrap the throttle wire in a RF Filter just in case
As long as you have no metal to metal connections you will be fine
I once saw a pic of QQ's 80"+ Yak using a DA50 and a pull-pull cable on the throttle to the servo with simple loops on both ends. I beleive it was a pic in his assembly manual. I know if he does it, it must work because if you have ever heard him working the throttle going into a hover then you know what I mean. I'm sure he leaves the return spring on the carb though for positive throttle return

Interesting you mention the pull pull (pull/spring back). My carb has a return spring on it. I suppose the pull connection would be best if ran inside a tube. Any thoughts on what might be the best material to use (ex. - kevlar thread)? It never ceases to amaze me how complicated I can make something that can be simple. Part of the fun though.

Personally I have never used it and the pic did not show much other than the serv and carb connections. I'll try and dig it up. I would think Kevlar would work but you would need a very straight run unless you do a pully setup

I used a piece of CF tube & JB Welded a 1" piece of 4-40 rod into each end. I then put ball links on each end.
Titanium ends would be better, but this seemed strong enough for the throttle.

Same here works great. Used JB Weld to bond the titanium ends (first clean everything really good w/ alcohol, sanding a little is good too).

Flylow,
I use exactly the stuff you posted... on the package is says Sullivan Precision Rod. It works awesome... zero throttle trim changes. I heard the rod is built with a sort of plastic buffer in it to make it non-conductive, but I can't say for sure... just heresay.
FWIW... my throttle servo is 20"+ back from the motor with this rod and I love it. I use a Sullivan Golden-Clevis connected to a plastic servo arm on one end (or a ball link to a metal servo arm.. have both running) and a ball-link connected to the carb arm on the other end... no metal-metal or carbon-metal contact.

Been away from the computer for a couple of days. It looks like there isn't a "most popular" way to do the throttle hookup. Thanks for all the input. Thanks for the pm flyinrazrback.

I use Spiderwire fishing line (Teflon impregnated Kevlar) on a "Pull" setup. Runs inside a tube with a servo mounting eyelet at each end. Tube does not have to be straight since the line will not cut anything. Simple setup. Works fine for me.
