Enya has a Giant gow engine that is advertized to pull up to a 22 lb airplane. It is model 1.80X ..... page 65 March M.A.N. Has anyone tried one yet? Thanks Captinjohn

It depends on the plane! If you're talking about a 22 lb Cub then it would probably be fine. But if it's an aerobatic model, Extra, Ultimate, Edge etc.... no way...a 1.8 wouldn't do you much good on a plane over 16 lbs.

Default engines

Enya made a Vee 240twin. It used the pistons from the 1 cyl single they made. Very nice sounding engine. I heard one at a fly-in and wanted one ever since. Smooth Landings, Capt,n

The largest glow engine I have is an OS BGX-1, 3500cc, 2.18ci. It pulls a 15.7lb (wet) Ultimate Pitts adaquately, but not with absolute vertical authority. That's at an altitude of sea level on an average day.

I can not imagine a 1.8ci even coming close to slow flying anything other that a very lightly loaded, huge wing span, 22lb aircraft.

I bet the Wright Brothers never thought a airplane would ever fly strait up or hover!!! They was happy to see one fly dead level for a short period of time.

Many scale guys are using the Moki 1.8 and 2.1 in planes weighing upwards of 30 pounds, and not "lightly loaded" but WWII type aircraft. I flew my Moki 1.8 in one of my own design 20 pound planes (like a big stick) 90" ws and it sure flew with authority. I also flew the same plane with my Enya VT-240 and it flew pretty much like the Moki 1.8 in terms of power.

If you want unlimited performance with a 1.8 size engine (glow) your best bet is a 12 to 14 pound aerobat like the Midwest Super Stinker. Thats a great combo and a no shortage on power!

I have flown a scratch built 14 lb profile airplane with a Moki 1.8..Awsome is an understatement for this combo....It takes off in about 3 feet and will pull out of a hover with no problem, and is a blast to fly...full throttle is never needed..I'm trying to talk the owner into making some of the planes to sell, as everyone who flys it wants one....(Me included)..

AHEM!!!! If I may interject. . .

ST make the largest PRODUCTION glow powered engine. . the ST6000 inline twin. VERY smooth running and the sound is incredible. Turns a 24 6-10 Top Flite in the 6800 range.

Actually, I think that engine is not in production anymore.

And, Moki also makes an inline version 60cc same as the ST uning two 1.80's that could beat the pants off the ST anyday of the week!

As for single cylinder glows, the ST 4500 was probably one of the largest but once you get that heavy and fuel hungry why use glow when gas will do?
