Here are a few pics of my Somenzini YAK 54 73" with nothing left to do but install all the gear. I have the Brillelli 40cc GT on the business end and I'll be using Hitec HS-5645MG Digital servos all around and a HS-475 on the throttle. I had custom CF gear made so I could run the XOAR 20X8 prop. This was suppose to be a winter project but it seems like every time I passed it in the garage I had to do something to it. Cold weather is beginning to set in and I'm not a cold weather flyer so it will probably be Spring before I get to maiden this beauty. I'm having the wife get me the new JR 7202 PCM radio for Christmas so I can start out nice and fresh this spring .

Fantastic Zippi !!! I got the pleasure of watching Bob fly his a few times. Very agile kite. Straight flyers.

That is great you have your wife's support in a sport hated by most wives. I am still looking for a woman who understands my need for RC. Wouldn't even mind a chubby gal if she could mix epoxy and do field repairs.

.......dude, I think your looking for a pit crew. My better half doesn't support the hobby that much. Christmas is about the only time she buys me anything plane related. Then she crys about that . Aerobob's YAK 54 73" is what got me interested in building mine. Very nice, can't wait to fly it.

Skinny Bob,

I like the caption below your post. "Light travels faster than sound etc." I borrowed it and have it taped to the side of my PC at work just to remind people .

Very nice plane there Zippi. I have been reading the different Brillelli related forum threads latly and you seem to pop up in a lot of them. I'm startiong to change from 4 strokes to gas and am waiting froor my Brillellu 46 to arrive.
Ive got to finish the sport scale electric ME163 comet though.... not feeling motovation...uugh.... eopxy fumes dulling my... bals dus...

First KIT in a long time and not the best cut or engineered setup, not horrible just not necessatily how I would like to have had done things. Anyway the project clogging my workbench is immaterial...
That plane looks SWEET!
Good luck

vtx1800,

Kinda what I did, coming off 4 stokes to gas the beginning of the year. When I got my first Brillelli engine I got lucky, I picked the cream of the crop right off the bat. I plan on getting a 46cc down the road but for now I have to much going on. Spring time looks good. What do you plan on putting your 46cc on?

Actually I first bought an MVVS 160 with a pipe for the ultra rc Giles 202 ( still in the box). It will probably get the job done for standard maneuvers but might not 3D. Can I 3D? Not really, I make feeble attempts at hovering but have never really set up a plane properly to try ( aft cg, mondo power, relative instability). I love the video the company did for the Giles.
Anyway I purchased a set of scaleable plans (a CD) for a giant stick. I had it printed to an 84"span. The 46 Brillelli was to go in the Giles, the 26 to the Stick but I may have to rethink that. I could build the stick really light, 5/16 stick built with a little light ply forward fuse doubler, Dremel out lightning holes in the wing ribs. Flap and crow setup. Could be done i guess, a real floater.
I figure the 46 would be an insane amount of power for the Giles, but fine on the stick. Winters coming... I have time to think about it.

In effect, I'm not sure, Stick or Giles. The Giles is here though.

VERY, VERY nice, Zippi!!!!!! GREAT work, particularly on that cowling.... those cuts took a lot of work; mine did.... Don't forget your ignition, though!

Landing gear is SWEET - who did those for you?

I'll tell ya - you ain't gonna believe the power package on that bird first takeoff.... The Xoar will really make it sing.
(I kinda miss mine, but there's only so much room in the shop, too.)

Good luck with it - hope you get to maiden before real winter sets in on you!

aerobob,

Thank's .... The cowl did take some time but came out fine. The CF gear was made by Ken McCaughin out of Hoosick Falls, NY. He has made CF gear for me in the past and does a great job. I used a form that had all the dimensions such as height, width, etc. and sent it to him and he makes the gear to your spec's at a good price. Ken can be reached at [email protected].

Personal choice.... and "belief".... some LIKE the velocity stack, although it is not a shaped interior, so it does NO velocity changing... it does effectively alter the "suction" probably. At any rate, I don't use 'em, don't need 'em, don't like 'em. Lots of folks do, and can offer their praises.

When in doubt - try it both ways, decide what you like.

BTW - that "other thread" is not CLOSED, nor locked.... I just suggested that we needed to quit beating on the motor issue. My motor quit. My plane crashed. We know why the motor died, and the new owner is happy and confident with it's performance. Life is good - and the QQ Yak is a truly OUTSTANDING performance package with the Brillelli 40.... NO doubt about it.

For break in run it at 40:1 with some good non synthetic oil like Penzoil for air cooled engines, or Opti2 if you can find it. After a few gallons you can switch to a synthetic like Klotz or Bel Ray. Then 50:1 may be fine. You will just have to see how it runs.

As for Bobs engine quiting. It should come out as to why. When I recieved Bobs engine back I took it all apart to find out why it would have killed. What I found was there was a small design change in the intake that I did not notice right away. The change led to the possibility of a pulse leak. Only 3 engines went out like that before we caught it. Bobs was showing no symptoms of the problem so we figured he had the old style intake. But that wan't the case. His developed a pulse leak. Probibly that day. That meant poor fuel pumping. He pulled up and it leaned out and killed. The rest is history. We imediatly fixed the problem and contaced the other 2 people that had the potential problem in time. Bob was just unluckey. As were we. WE do not take things like that lightly. Bob and I came up with a solution that made us both happy. Bob bought 2 more engines since then, so I guess he is happy. If he is happy, we are happy. Good repeat customers like Bob are hard to find.

I want to fly my yak, but I got 8" of snow on the ground. I'll have to wait until it's colder so that the lakes will freeze.

Come on now Zippi, tough it out You would not believe how well the planes fly at 30 deg. More power and better control with the thicker air. I have a couple of glow planes that are borderline on 3D power in the middle of summer, but in the winter they are awsome.

Zippi,

Awesome looking Yak. I don't think, no I know I could not wait until spring to fly that pretty bird. Please give us a flight repart as soon as you can.

I am moving on to Bi-Planes for my Brilleli engines. I am not up to the 3D thing so I have dicided to stay with just the standard stunts. My Brillelli 40GT in going into a GP Giant Aeromaster. I have wanted this plane for a long time and I now I have one to put together. Scott again is providing the customer support he is known for with this project.

I just want to chime in and say to those that may see us Brillelli owners as a bunch of FANBOYZ............ If you get an engine from Scott ,,, and need any kind of assistance what-so-ever. You'll feel the same as we do. We are all sick and tired of the non-caring sloppy after sales service you normally get from most RC anything dealers. Scott really cares about his customers and it shows.
Period.

poco242,

I just can't do it man. That pic of all the snow that akschu posted ......... that just makes me want to cry . Thats ok, just gives me a chance to save a little money and set back and think of what I'll be getting next. After I've got it oked by my better half of coarse.

Jim,

The GP Giant Super Aeromaster is one fine looking plane. I would have thought maybe the Brillelli 46cc would be a good match for that plane. The 40cc should work good as well.

Zippi, that's just a beautiful plane, I know you will have a ball with it. You've done a great job setting it up.
