It seems the YW engines are cloned too.
In Germany they are distributed by Pichler:

The DA100 clone was on this site too but was removed from it recently.
It seems the brand name is DZY

If a successful product can be copied, you can bet it will be done in china first. They seem to have no shame when it comes to this practice. I would'nt pay $700 for a DA100 copy. When it needs service, who is going to do it in the US? You would'nt dare send it DA to be repaired........
Just my $.02

I bet Dave Johnson is more flattered than offended, that this company "copied" one of his engines.

i don't think there will be very many of these in the USA, they will have to back there engines like DA and that is the hard part of CLONEING a product.
KEEP A EYE ON CHINA,THEY WILL BE AT OUR FRONT DOOR ONE DAY!

Japan copied a BMW motorcycle years ago and a Chevy 6 cyl engine. I wonder if China is going to copy a Harley Davison Motorcycle? That would create some excitement! Capt,n

The BMW copy was a Marusho, it was a disaster, and not much of a copy...One of my friends had one...
It's our fault, money talks....
I have a few really good used G62s, am thinking about making some UNDER 4 lb G62 lites to sell for way less than any other engine, Chinese or made in USA from chainsaw parts and machined cases...Glass beaded cylinders and cases, new rings and rebuilt carbs...Think they're not as good as a new one ?..I DEFY anyone to ever wear one out
The gloves are off [8D]

Do you really think somebody of reasonable knowledge will buy one of these, expecting it to be 100% up to par with a DA?

I myself would not consider it, but I know many that would. Look at what sells at the mega-marts and where it is manufactured.
As someone already stated, China is already at our front door[]

RTK,
I didn't say that nobody was going to buy it. Read my comment again please, without taking part of it out of context. I think DA is selling all the engines they can produce anyway, so if they happen to loose a few would have been customers, I doubt it really matters to them. Maybe if they're really lucky, many of the first time gasoline engine users will buy the knock of, and DA won't have to deal with them on the phone all day long when they have tried their best to break the engine .

To me (one of the customers), more players means competition which means better products at reasonable price. To manufactures, it means the need to offer better services and to innovate. So it is a win-win situation.
The other side of the story is what makes DA, BME, etc engines so uniqe. Anybody knows patents etc. filed by these vendors?
A completely copied engine can be easily recognized as long as DA establishes a product database, just as Nikon does for its camera/lens products. A partially copied product probably is more difficult to guard against. But again, the IP owners have to act earlier.
I recall the obsolete RCM magazine once published a review on gas engine made by Korea. Have not heard it anymore.

Thirty years ago US manufacturers of radios and kits were just as comfortable as DA is now. SPE is gaining momentum with small singles, at $300 their prices are inflated due to high demand. Once production catches up a $699 100cc twin is not much of a stretch.

DKjens,
I guess I am more cynical. "IF" the Chinese could get away with importing it and actually could make a half decent engine. I believe it would be the end of more than just DA. I feel in the future they might dominate the RC 2 stroke market just like they do in the ARF and other markets.
I can't argue the point you made on the first time buyers

I like to look at the big picture. DA does far more than just design and manufacture engines. Take the 2006 Tucson aerobatic shootout as just 1 example of their commitment to this hobby we all enjoy. A world class line up of pilots including the best in the USA in all classes, major prizes and the best run event I have had the pleasure of witnessing.
I will keep on supporting the genuine article everytime with people who have the interests of our hobby at heart spoken with action not words.
Just my personal thoughts
