Well I recommend to follow the manual with no doubt. As other people says, the Zenoah - Komatsu dropped ball at this engine..
I have talked with several tuners.. here is answer from one of them
Paul , I have received the parts from Zenoah so I can start work on the 20. compression, and timing are very conservative on this engine. At this time I will only be making modifications to help with smooth running. The piston will be lightened and the crank lightened, straightened and balanced. This will add some power and make a better running of the engine.
So as you can see, is not 231 or 260 where you can play with ignition advance and compression ratio which id rally the most important part of engine tuning.. Wait if somebody came with some solution. May be me or some other tuner. Or risk to lose USD 300

I have a Zenoah G20 in a CAP 10, and it flies the holy-crap out of it! I use a 2500 Mah battery and I can fly ALL DAY. My thinking is, those that piss & moan about this engine really don't have any active brain cells... Yes, this ignition does consume a fair amount of amperage but it's nothing to lose sleep over. As far as engine performance, I use an APC 16x8 prop and it turns 9600 RPM on the ground. That's nothing to thumb your nose at. This is an excellent engine. If you need a little more RPM, get rid of the steel muffler and install a Bennett muffler for a G26, it will bolt right on and it will add 800 to 1000 RPM.

Hi guys , I have a zen 20cc in a maule which is 10 lbs and it flys great In fact if you go on the glens model site you can see at first hand this engine being put through its paces. It will do this knife edge thing , roll loop almost anything except that hover thing. I went up to my flying field the other day and saw a chap flying a seagul extra260 with a 70ins wing span. He was doing very large loops without the model running out of puff at the top of the roll, it was flying great and I was very suprised when he told me he had the zenoha 20cc up front. O.K. it would not do funny things that some of you chaps do, witch i think is very clever by the way. The ign bat was 3,500 mh and we were up there for about 2hrs without having to charge the bat. It was minus i c so it did well even in the cold. I have just orderd the extra after seeing this plane at first hand. Regards to all Bill.

Apparently, Jetpilot had a bad experience with a G20. That happens. However, one or two instances out of the potentially thousands of G20's flying great doesn't make them bad engines.

Yes i am using the stock zenoah hall sensor , just replace the sensor cable plug so it can match the cdi sensor cable plug
and make sure the positive, negative and pulse cable match each other ..

Do they share similar color code? I mean, red is positive, black negative and white pulse?

Boys the ignition replacement is OK for planes but not for helis. Original set goes up to 13 000 RPM the cheap max 10 000 RPM. But to be honest, I have tested few of them from China and one known - Falcon ignitions. All same result, the engine cant go over 10 000RPM. If some body here have experience with unknown typoe of ignition, please let me know I will be happy to try. Thanks!

Eventually, I got my G20ei engine to run again. I have replaced the faulty Zenoah CDI module with the Rcexl without replacing the stock hall sensor and it worked.

Why did I buy the 20 instead of the 26?.....It's smaller!! Yes, the 26 has more power for it's WEIGHT but it's LARGER. The 20 fits where the 26 would not. My 11 lb Phaeton 90 biplane flies extremely well with it and there's no problems at all. I did exchange the ignition module with CH Electronics module and I fly as long as I want.

Just like you the G20 fills a special neich for me and I'm very happy with it's performance running on an RC exl ignition with a 700mAh nicad pack, and in a GP Big Stick at 8.5 lbs. the performance is just awesome.

just got back from flying...my friend has a seagull 90 yak w/ zen20...he used no-ethanol gas for the first time, and said it was like night and day...he said he leaned the high a little...i've been using no-ethanol gas for a while, and talked him into getting some from a convenience store/gas station that sells "classic" gas...ken
