Which Prop For G62 33%Edge 540
Can anyone tell me from experience which prop I should use on my 33% Edge 540 Hanger 9 Model with a Zenoah G62? I plan on some aerobatics but not Hovering. Any input will help.

RE: Which Prop For G62 33%Edge 540
I really like the NX 22x10 (over a Mejzlik, Menz, or Bolly wood) on my G62/Wild Hare combo.....Another guy I know likes his Xoar 23x8. I've tried other 23x8 brand props, and they were just a bit slow for my taste. With that said, prop the G62 to get 7,000 rpm + on the ground, and you'll be in good shape. You won't hurt this engine if it turns 8,000.......

Wanna REALLY play around?
Put a header and tuned pipe on it and you'll be swinging a 23-10 at 7300+ [sm=lol.gif] You can get it from Macs. Same guys that make the little black tuned mufflers for the glow engines. Macs makes 3 different lengths for the header. Depends on how much side clearence you need to get it out of the cowl.
I'm probably going to put one of these in a 30% Extra 300L this spring. My original intent was to put a GT-80 twin in the plane, but as much as I love the motor, it's just too heavy and can't be seriously lightened enough to make a difference. Then I was going to put a 3W-80XI in the plane, but I ended up selling it to a friend who has a 31% ready to go and he needed it right now.
I am really confident that if I send the G-62 to Ralph and have him lighten it as much as humanly possible--and then put on a tuned pipe, I'll have a nice combo. It might not hover or 3D with that engine. The plane is supposed to weigh about 17--19 pounds. But, it should be an excellent pattern plane for lower levels of IMAC.

I use a MSC 22/8 on my rc ignitions g 62 on ign.from Ralph C works very well with good downline braking and pulls like a stump. I have it on a Wildhare 29% Ultimate bibe.

I hovered a 22.5 lbs plane with a stock G62 with in cowl muffler. Don't remember the prop but I do remember it was full throttle all time.
18 lbs with a good tuned 62 must be quite fun IMO.

FWIW- these are engines designed with revs in mind- they are relatively short stroke -which means - they can turn a LOT faster than some other designs - simply because the piston speed stays low
Said another way- if a ZDZ60 is turning 8000 rpm the piston is sliding much faster than a G 62 at same rpm.
The cranks are going around at the same speed
Bottom line -- to get same horsepower the g 62 must turn faster -which is no problem for them .
To get the same torque at the same rpm --is a trick--
The same size engine does not mean they both are intended to run in same rpm band.
A well matched pipe setup will increase torque on either engine
My 80 J will turn 27x10 at 6600- piped - without the pipe - a 26x10 turns about the same
The torque increase is very substantial-and it works on ANY 2 stroke.
Just be sure you know what you want the pipe to do (what rpm band you want to be in)

I was hoping you'd chime in about the tuned pipe Dick. I've put a Macs header and pipe on one of these in the past. All I can say is WOW!!
I don't necessarily want max RPM. It's the smooth power over the entire RPM range that I'm after. I don't know if you can do that. I have heard that a longer header will deliver the smooth power over a broad range and the short header pipe is what makes the peaky HP on the top end. Is that right?
