Well,

I fly a Mejlik 22x10. It is a little on the small size but my engine is new. I have a Mejlik 24x8 on standby. The 22x10 is great though. Pulls like a bat out of hell.

Believe it or not I have not tached it. It flew great with a 22x10 so I never switched. I need to tach it though. Not a lot of vibration. Runs smooth as silk. It's just LOUD AS HELL. Everyone knows when I go up. You ought to hear it doing watefalls. WOW!! What a sound.

I run 32:1 Mobil 1 synthetic racing 2T. I found that you can only get it from Auto Zone or a motorcycle shop. I have to baby my MVVS 26cc Motor with it so I use it for all my planes. My 85" Extra weighs 13.7 Lbs.

Any other questions.

Wow, that's awesome. I know the sound is attention catching, ... I've heard others say so. I may have to skip my Cap 232/DL-50 project and go straight to the Edge 540/Peak 65. I'm not sure what my setup will weigh, but the airframe is pretty light Here are pics of my plane and engine.(Excuse the storm damage in background ... had just had a tornado ) Who makes your Extra?

Also, .. In looking at the pic of my muffler, I wonder if I can have it TIG welded ... reinforced before I start using it, and actually avoid losing one or both stacks? Also, I researched and TIG welding is the preferred process for welding thin, easily melted aluminums.

Daryl,

Yes Tig welding is the preferred method. How much will that cost though?. I guess it doesn't really matter when i already paid for 3 mufflers.

I bought my Extra on e-bay, No name, Generic. Here is the link to the seller. (http://myworld.ebay.com/scenariobkg)

I had the graphics custom made.

Hi Guy's,
I have been flying the 65cc for about 6 months now, and I love mine. It turns a 24X8 at about 6700RPM.
Be careful of the choke, once you unhook the spring that holds it open, it's very sloppy and can close during flight. Either put a servo on it, or leave the spring on and pump some gas in the carb before the first flight of the day.
Oh, my "Muffler" broke before the motor was even installed in a plane, I spend about 2 days welding a new one.

Frank,
I choke it manually. I cut a hole in the cowl and stick my finger in there. It automatically catches when I cut the throttle all the way back. Then, once it pops, I give it a little throttle to release the choke automatically. My 3W engine chokes the same way.

Wow, thats some awsome numbers for a 24x8 I don't think the chainsaw conversion will run that. My friends Chainsaw motor won't turn those numbers on a 23x8. Keep us updated. Sounds like it could be a good motor for the 88'' EF yak. We need a bigger prop.

85" Extra weighs 13.7 Lbs.

Any other questions.

John Franklin
[X(]
Thats REALLY hard to believe. Who makes this plane BTW?
That weight is nearly a half pound lighter than an EF 87" Yak with a DA50 in it all CF. The lightest gas plane in the 85-87" range I have seen so far. And this motor weighs nearly a pound more AUW. Are you saying the plane only weighs 13.7lbs bare, stripped, no engine, no radio?

Otherwise, you would need to post a picture with two witnesses before I would believe that weight.

Frank, can you tell us the real weight of the engine. No muffler, no standoffs, no ignition.

Overall, how would you rate the performace of this engine?

thanks

Jr John,
I will weigh the engine for you when I get home if Frank hadn't got around to it yet. I have it off of my airplane right now waiting for a muffler.
It is made by LHK models in China.
My plane Really does weigh under 14 pounds. With a 22x10 Mejlik prop on it. The instruction book says 12 - 15 pounds. It is very fragile. Nothing at all under the bottom except covering. I had to add some balsa across the bottom of the airplane to put my fuel tank.

I have a friend who was going to import this line of planes. Their Chinese website it www.lhk-rc.com. The manufacturer does say it has a flying weight under 14 lbs. They also have a 98" 100cc Edge 540 they say is 21 lbs. I never got to see the planes myself but was quite interested at the time.
... Also, on the Peak 65 ... several months ago I did extensive seaching to find the actual weight of the GSi65cc engine before I bought mine. Different sellers were listing it with different weights, all in grams. I weighed mine and posted a picture of the engine on scale in one of these threads. I'll look for it, and edit and add to this message when found.

JR,

starting: It takes 3 or 4 flips to make it pop. Once it pops, You flip it 2 more times and you can tell it is trying to start. 2 more flips and she purrs like a kitten.
Idle - like I said, I haven't tached it yet but it idles real low. Low enough that my plane doesn't move until I give it a little throttle, and I fly on concrete.
power - the power is amazing. On a 22x10 Mejlik, vertical is unlimited. IT IS A GAS GUZZLER THOUGH. DO NOT..I REPEAT...DO NOT try to fly for more than 6 minutes on your first flight. Bring it in and check the fuel PLEASE DO THIS. I dead sticked mine my first 2 flights.
vibration - minimal. No more than my BME 50 or my 3W.

I fly a Mejlik 22x10. It is a little on the small size but my engine is still new. I have a Mejlik 24x8 on standby. The 22x10 is great though. Pulls like a bat out of hell.

Hahaha ... I don't read Chinese either, . but I used a language conversion program at work to translate the page. Google also has one.
Here are pics of the engine on the scale. 4 lbs 8 oz with engine and ignition, ... 4 lbs 12 oz with engine, ignition and muffler ... and 2150 grams for those using metrics.
... It probably should be noted, this IS... a big engine 4.0 cubic inches. Its displacement is larger than a G62 which is 3.78. The GSi65 cc is 3.966 cubic inches. It is light for its size, but its not the same weight as the new generation 50cc engines(3 lbs bare), .. and it shouldn't as it's a 65cc engine. By contrast, I have a new, but older Precison Eagle 4.2 (70cc) engine and its weight is 6 lbs 6 oz with engine, ignition and muffler.

Set the engine up with the 32:1 fuel noticed that with Johns setting the fuel was popping out of the carb. Turn the low end in to about 3/4 of a turn out, it stopped.
checked high end was doing the same, turn it back 3/4 turn out and there it was purring like a kitten........... tran was good but idle little rough.ran a tank of fuel throw motor, (made dam sure all the neighbors all came out) and then put it away.......................lol. cant wait to get it to the field. I think with a little more work i will get the idle down.

one more question john. did you take the spring off the carb. throttle ??????

thanks
again

Any current prop numbers on this engine? Reading in the thread earlier where the numbers were not making any sense.

OK I STARTED THE ENGINE AND LET IT RUN A LITTLE ABOVE IDLE FOR ABOUT 5 MIN. CHECKED OVER THE PLANE MADE SURE EVERYTHING WAS GOOD. REVED IT UP AND IT CAN UP TO SPEED 22x10 MASTER AIRSCREW PROP RIGHT AT 6346 RPM. AT THIS POINT I HAVE ONLY RUN 1 FULL TANK OF FUEL THROW THE MOTOR. TUEN IT OFF LEFT THE CHOKE ON FLOODED THE HELL OUT OF THE ENGINE.......LOL. NOTE TO SELF, TURN CHOKE OFF AFTER ENGINE STOPS.......... 20MIN LATER STARTED IT UP AND ROLLED IT OUT ON TO THE RUNWAY. TAXI FOR ABOUT 5 MIN AND I WAS READY. TOOK OFF AND PULLED STRAIGHT UP, AND THAT IS WHERE IT WENT UNTIL I LEVELED OUT.

SO NOT KNOWING ANYTHING ABOUT THIS ENGINE AND IT BEING MY FIRST GASSER I WOULD SAY I AM FULLY 100% HAPPY...... 299 FOR THIS ENGINE IS WORTH EVERY PENNY........ JUST TO SEE THE LOOK ON ALL THE OLD MEN AT THE FIELD WHEN I BUZZ IT AT ABOUT 2 FT. OFF THE GROUND.........PRICELESS..............."

I DO THINK AFTER 2 OR 3 TANKS OF GAS ICOULD GET 7000 RPMS AND A BALANCED PROP
