ZDZ50 Got Yours Yet
I got mine last week, I put it in an 86" Pica P-40(previously had a Moki 2.1 in it, slightly under powered, once it got in the air and the gear up, it flew ok). I went to the field, tried to start it and it would only cough and sputter. Took it home dismantled the carb, tried it again...same thing...dismantled it again and finally reasoned that walbro had forgotten to drill the hole in the pulse pressure passage from the crankcase. I drilled the hole and it ran fine. I called RCS, explained what happened, and they sent me a new carb. I installed the new carb, tried to start the engine, and it gave me some more problems ( couldn't set the needle valves properly). I dismantled the new carb, adjusted the (let's call it a float valve) float valve and the engine ran. I put a 22x10 on it and got 5900-6000 rpm's...put a 22x8 on it and got 6900-7000 rpms. I believe I will be very happy with this engine.

I got tired of waiting an ordered mine fro Amellung Modellbau in Germany. No shipping and $425. I got flamed by RCS the last time I posted this. It is called supply and demand. If you need it you do what you must to get it.

I have had nine for 3 months and it runs great.

Surprised to hear about a Walbro on a ZDZ. I thought they all used Bing Carbs.
That (carb availability) may have been part of the delay. Just curious...
I'm still leaning toward the BME 50. I don't care for the 6 bolt hubs.

I think you will really like your ZDZ 50. I have one on a 16 lb plane and have unlimited vertical and more power than I really need. That's the way I like it. If you can get a mejzlik 20X10 prop you will be happy with the performance. I am using a Bisson muffler.

Just looked at the German link. I know where l am getting my ZDZ from. Blows the Canadian resellers out of the water. I get my MVVS engines from France as well. No one in north America can touch the price, and they have stock, always.

No US ZDZ 50
I agree, I really wanted to have one of these motors, I also have seen the true colors of RCS as they have said if you buy from some one else they will not do warranty work, is this legal, if one was to buy a Ford from a dealer and you took it too another dealer they would have to fix it.RCS says it is the US distributer for ZDZ, I wounder if the corporate office of ZDZ knows that they will not service motors not purchased from them, after all it's ZDZ's reputation.LeeU

ZDZ Warranty and RCS' "True Colors"
RC Showcase does fully support the ZDZ warranty.
BUT:
1) We do not supply the labor free if the engine was not purchased from RCS.
2) ZDZ Modelmotor knows about this.
3) ZDZ Modelmotor does not reimburse RCS for any warranty labor. (the model airplane engine business is NOT the same as the automobile business)
4) RCS maintains the warranty repair parts inventory at its own expense. Warranty parts are replaced by ZDZ Modelmotor, but our customers do not want to wait for the exchange to take place.
5) As a courtesy we extend the "non purchased here" warranty. We use: our paid people, our time, our tools, our parts and our knowledge to do this. Should we stop doing this?
6) Why is this wrong? Exactly what are "our true colors "?
7) The purchaser always has the option of returning the engine to the European seller for warranty repair.

I ordered a ZDZ 50 engine from RCShowcase and it took a couple months to get. Their customer service was very good, they responded to my questions very quickly. I don't think it is realistic to be upset with them for not having the engines in stock. From a buisness perspective ZDZ should direct its supply of engines to the highest demand market, that appears to be US and not Europe. ZDZ only hurts their own market share as customers switch to other vendors.
They can't provide free warranty service from German bought engines, it is a small buisness, they can't afford the expense. Given the Germans and RCShowcase are about the same price I would prefer to know I have the service and support of a US distributor.
PS
(RCShowcase - please improve your shipped documents a bit: include a packing list and create a little nicer looking manual)

I think most people will try to get there engines from ZDZ first. I did. I think extending the warranty labor would go a long way to ensure that ZDZ will be the first to get the next order.
These are good ,well built engines. The warranty work should be minimal. By doing the warranty work I think it would enforce the fact that ZDZ is a god company.
Just my 2cents.

Hey guys. I am in a different boat than you being from Canada. I find the biggest problem is shipping and l think the distributors are feeling it as well. After 9/11 shipping in and out of the USA has really gone downhill. I buy a fair amount from guys here on RCU. But sending a MO to someone down south takes normally a full two weeks. That's a letter, l would hate to send a parcel. Getting stuff out of the USA is not so bad. Usually with in a week. But l think the distributers are getting the short end of the stick waiting for out of country stuff, stuck in customs waiting to be checked, x rayed, or iradiated.
I once waited 3 months while getting the "we have no stock" waiting for a different engine from the USA(no names, wink wink). Someone from RCU, pointed out a french RC web site. Same engine 40% cheaper, free shipping and l had it in my hand in 6 days. I had ordered 3 models. I had a problem with one, l emailed them and they asked me to send it back for repair (US distributer wanted nothing to do with it). Sent it and had a new replacement in 10 days. If l had sent it stateside they would still be waiting for it and since they still had no stock l would have waited even longer.
So unfortunately if l can get a ZDZ cheaper and faster from Germany, l probably will. Because the warranty work simply will not be a problem. Unless l can find a distributor up here. Nothing against RCshowcase, l am actually looking at some of their other products l want, and will order from them.
Cheers

Simple 3 (Three )months on back order with no idea when I would get my motor, when I would call, I was told three times that the next shipment would be when I would get my motor. After calling and not getting my motor as promised, I canceled, I guess its my fault that you could not deliver. LeeU

your fault?
LEEU:
RC Showcase was not suggesting in anyway that any fault lay with you; in relation to anything, at any time--or anywhere, now that I think of it, ---
We thank you for your order and we are sorry that we could not fill it in a reasonable time. We told you what we did because , at the time, we believed it to be the truth. There is nothing more frustrating, for a business, than creating demand and not be able to meet it.
The ZDZ 50 demand will soon be fully matched by incoming shipments. We have managed to keep the other engines in stock.
I hope that you enjoy your new engine.
Happy Landings

Got Mine
Just got my ZDZ 50 yesterday. Very nice! It came in after only 2 weeks from when I ordered (not the 10-12 Andrea told me to expect), however the Pitts-style muffler and Megasmoke stuff didn't come (engine, ignition, starter kit, spinner and a couple other things were in the box). Of course I don't have the plane yet (still waiting on the kitter to warm up in Michigan). I suppose I will be breaking the engine in on a test stand as soon as the muffler comes in.
Although I wasn't going to be in a hurry on this project, I feel that 'ole tugging and impatience I always get when there's something NEW to put together!

I got mine!
When I got home yesterday (3-4-03), a box was waiting for me from RC Showcase. In it was my new ZDZ 50.
What a work of art! It seems so much better designed and put together than my old first generation G-62. This looks like a real model aircraft engine.
Also, I would like to comment on the first class service I received from RC Showcase. They were quick, courteous, professional and friendly. I didn't mind waiting for my back order to be filled, and in the end the wait was less than I anticipated.
Also in the box was a Bambula 22x10 prop. Another great looking piece of work. It's all going in a Great Planes Patty Wagstaff Extra.
It ought to be an awesome combination!
