RE: Copperhead Venom 45
Guys,
I have noticed there is a lot of mystery around gas engines. I starting flying gas in the late 80’s when there wasn’t much help available. All is one needs to do today is read the forums to understand gas. Guys like Mark, Ralph pe reivers , Mike and I provide a wealth of information. In the 80’s, I learned from the best because we were all starting to fly IMAC. We weren’t *****ing because the engines weren’t running right; we were experimenting with baffles, vents and stacks. In short, the cowling was always a problem in getting the engine tuned and the ones who did won the contests. What’s my point, read and learn. Mt first Giant scale was a 35% Carden and it took me over a year to build. I can’t tell you how many times we dead sticked my 35% before I got my engine running right. To be continued……

Has any one put a different pitts muffler on thier engine? The stock muffler is good but the side canister on it will not fit in my cowl and I really dont want to hack it up to make it fit. I read in acouple of posts the one from the sachs engine might fit but I dont no it will for sure and I dont want to experiment at 75 to 85 bucks a piece. Just wondering if any one has actualy put one on.

Hi Bill. I'll see if I can catch up to Tim today somehow and get you an answer. I know he has been out a LOT with some contractor work and getting ready for Christmas of course.

Promises, promises, promises!!!!!
I just got off the phone with someone who said that they had just talked with you 15 mins ago. I called and you didn't answer
I still have not received my engine back yet. This was purchased on 7 sept 07. Numerous long distance phone calls and even help from one of your friends and you still haven't kept your promise.
I guess tim that you are not a man of your word and I am just out 300 some odd dollars. I think that I have gotton the real raw end of the deal from you including people who have had problems with your co. Tim don't bite the hand that feeds you

This is unbelievable. This company went from being well recomended and having what appeared to be great customer service to no service at all, at least as far as these post would indicate.
Please inform all your flying buddies that I have a brand new V45 that I am willing to sell. I don't even want to worry about all the what if's. This engine is still in the box, and has never been fired up. Contact me if interested.
Thanks
What a shame that M. Fuess was not kept involved with this.

Hi
After the response to my question (not the one to ask the arf company) I did add the brass tube to the carb plate, have not tried the engine yet, will in spring,,,the engine ran good without the cowl if it runs good with the cowl great,,but if I have any issues with the engine I will toss it in the garbage.... I would not take the chance on sending it in for warrenty... I bought a dl50 and would buy another one if needed......just my thoughts..

RE: Copperhead Venom 45
hello all
what I meant is if I have any issues such as a broken crank or something along that line,,,,,as i stated my engine runs good without the cowl,,,so I did add the brass tube as shown earlier in this thread as this is suppost to cure the going rich in the air with cowl on etc.....if I still have that problem of going rich I will not throw the engine in the trash I will simply put it on planes that do not use a cowl,,,,profile or something like that....my engine has been good,,minimal vibration and turns the zinger pro 22/8 at 7050,,, I am going to try a 21/8 in the spring on this engine which is going to be mounted on a gp cap 232.....

bec123,
If your engine is going rich when cowled you most likely do not have enough exit area in your cowl for proper airflow. You can either reduce the inlet area or increase the exit area. The exit area should be at least twice (three times is better) as big as the inlet area. Do you have any pictures of your install?
