Default Fuel gets to the carb, but not to the crankcase.

I've had a bit of trouble here and there with my Fuji 50 EI not idling very low (cuts off when it drops below about 2k rpm) and surging pretty seriously when down around that same range. I pull the plate off the backside of the carb and pulled the mesh screen, on which I found a piece of trash, so I thought I might have this problem licked. Put the screen back, put the plate back on, and now it won't start at all. After turning the engine over several times, I pulled the plate back off and fuel poured out of it. So it's obvious the carb is drawing fuel from the tank, but it's not getting past that plate to the crankcase. What could I have done wrong? The way I'm looking at it there's only one way that plate fits on the carb, and there are even alignment pins to help with that. I replaced the plate again and repeated the same process, from unsuccessful starting to removing the plate and again having fuel come right out of there.

I just went back and consulted the manual to confirm the plate is on in the proper orientation. I just can't figure out where I messed up.

Thanks.

No thoughts on this one? I haven't had a chance to mess with it since creating this post, hopefully I can do some more troubleshooting tomorrow.

Sorry for the delay. We've been trying to find the answer for you.

If the carburetor is mounted properly, and it has no blockages, we'd not know why no fuel would get into the engine. The only thing we can think of is a bad regulator that's not allowing fuel to pass through the jets into the engine. You may try richening both the high-speed and low-speed needles to about 2 turns out from closed. That's a LOT and you should see fuel pass. If not, then the carb needs a full tear-down and inspection.

Hi Bax,

I saw this question you answered last month, and thought I'd add another on to it since I'm currently having the same problem with me 32B. I however, didn't take the cover off and check the diaphram. What it did on me was quit while flying (first time in a year of good use it did that). After the successful deadstick landing, It no longer drew fuel into the carb at all. I even tried to blow air into it and it won't allow it. It's been working great till now, but I'm wondering if I need to send in the whole engine, or just the carb to have you guy's fix it? Or is there an explanation that I can fix it myself you could give me.

Thanks for your help as always.

Ken
