RE: Let's try again DL-50
Hi there,
Got a few questions if you could help out.
I got a little gf control horn with mine, is this to extend the throttle horn? do you all use it and if so how does it fit.
The throttle horn seems quite small as standard not much resolution.
Are you guys leaving the throttle spring hooked up? it seems quite a strong spring.
Also how much space is neccessary between carb and firewall is gap left using DL mounts enough without cutting hole in firewall.
This is my first gas engine. Thanks.

Kevin,
We are getting 6700 with stock muffler, and a TBM 23x8... That's a great number for the TBM prop... It's a wide blade wood, almost like a MSC.. The TBM should load more than a CF Mejzlik 23x8.
The engines have over 2 gallons thru them. 32:1 Lawn boy.

Olof,
Dennis hit the nail on the head with his explanations---The only thing that I do differently is to disconnect the throttle spring. It's perfectly OK to leave it in place but I feel that the spring puts a small load on the throttle servo...In this condition the servo is drawing current from the battery pack as the servo is fighting the spring. I disconnect the spring to release the tension on the servo to keep the current draw down....Just my preference...[8D]

One thing that is cool about leaving in the throttle spring is that if you lose your servo or linkage or something, the spring forces the engine back to idle. That allows you to land right away without having to run out your tank of gas at some throttle setting higher than idle. I like that better than cutting the engine and landing without the prop turning, totally deadstick. Just some food for thought.

It's all about what you prefer---Go with what you like!!!--I like to be able to kill the engine with the TX by retarding the throttle and trim and I like to be able to kill the engine with a separate switch that I can manually control...Funny---The only throttle servos that I've seen fail in big gasser applications were where the throttle spring was operable---Best we could determine is that the throttle servos failed due to being under a constant load as the servo(s) were HOT!!!

RE: Let's try again DL-50
I Need a little help?
My engine is running great I have a little problem with the idle, when i throttle up and back down quickly the engine will idle low for about 3 to 4 seconds and then it speeds up, if I throttle down slowly the the idle will just be high,i'm having a problem landing the plane i dont want to idle down too much because it will die on me. If i get the idle too low when I throttle down it will die before the engines has a chance to speed up.
I have cliped the Torsion spring on the throttle arm should i hook the spring back up?
Or do you think this may be too rich or lean on the low end?
The transion seems to be good.

Wow, this thread has grown fast in like no time at all. my question is, how does the out put of this DL compare to the real deal DA, do they compare with prop size and rpm readings? if i remember correctly DA claims 5.0 hp while this DL claims 5.2 is that just an advertising scheme, and what about overall consensus here, are people buying into the DL now, is it good stuff? i'm really interested to know not whats on their paper but what people have actually compared and reported. I only just discovered this DA clone thing has been going on and i feel left out lol, first thing came to mind, them dang chinese did it again lol. I want a 50CC for my TF Giant p51 and $600 versus $370 is a good exchange rate thats a definite fact to me.

craigteffe,
Take a look how your throttle servo behaves, I had same problem in glow plane servo was wagging at travel ends.
Just a thought.

Tisoy:
I've got a used DA up for sale.
I also have had experience with two DLs and I can say they run as good and probably better than the DA. This engine seems to start a little easier and have a couple hundred rpm on the DA. The mounting and prop dimensions are very very close, for all intents and purposes they are interchangeable. The only real difference is that the DA is a little longer, and a little heavier.
The only hesitation I have with the DL is the radio interfierence I and two other members have experienced. But that might not have been from the engine. Just be sure and do a very good range check.

The ad inserted here is ....let's say confusing. they quote a servo response time as 3.2ns, (who are they fooling")
then their web featured item picture says"check it out" and has no link! Not very inspiring.

RE: Let's try again DL-50
while you guy's are comparing the DA&DL,the DA will not go to the extreme rich on the high speed needle to the point where you start to drop rpm's,i always like to go rich on the top end to the point where you start to lose rpm's then start to lean it out and stop just before you get to peak rpm's,at lease that is with the stock carb. is the DL the same i have not heard any complaints about this with the DL.
ENJOY!
ENJOY!
