Help! Best gasser for 33 lbs twin
I posted in the twin forum, only 2 replies.........wow, only 2 people with opinions...go figure.
I need some good advise.
Hostetler 310R, approx 33-35 LBS per the plans (who knows?)......Ive changed my mind at least 37 times on which engines to use on this.
I want to run 3 blade props w/ gas, I ultimately decided the reliability of gas outweighs the scale look of not having hacked up cowls. These cowls are tight.
I dont want a underpowered twin, but dont need a guided missle either.
I have way too much wrapped up in this project, so I want to do it right!
G38's? G45? FPE 2.4? ?????
help.........
please......
Ted

RE: Help! Best gasser for 33 lbs twin
A Taurus 3.2 is just about the same size and weight as some 2.4. Seems to have a little more power than a DA 50. Also smoother running due to an additional bearing on the crank. Engine weight is 3lbs. 5 oz. I don't know if they still make a 2.4 or not.
A pair of 2.4's of your choice would do the job, but I'm one that likes more power, especially if an engine quits and I need to overcome the drag of a failed engine. I'm not positive but I believe that Taurus can set up an engine to run counter rotation to the other. Briellelli also markets some pretty good engines for what you might need.

I am putting two 25cc engines on a Stik that was 35 pounds with a single gas engine. It is expected to weigh 40 pounds plus. No opinion on a scale airplane.

Damn BillS... What kind of Stix weight that much ? ? <pics>
F2G-1... WH suggests:
26% Cessna 310R
Span: 115" Length: 99.7" Area: 1826 sq. in. Power: 1.8 to 3 cu. per engine Weight: 32-35 lbs
As Silver says, the 2.4 would be a great selection...
If you look up[SEARCH] 'Nosen 310' in twin forum it is clsose to the plane you are doing
and you can what others have used on that plane which was intended for .60's ....
