Fuji Imvac BT-32B 32cc Gas Engine, good or bad?
One of the guys in my club can't say enough good about Fuji Imvac gas engines and he's trying to talk me into buying the BT-32B 32cc, but on RCU I've heard some nasty things about this brand of engines. Are there some Fuji owners that can set me straight on the quality and realiability of Fuji engines?
Thanks,
Birman

After reading the posts about Fuji and comparing the weights and power and reliability I have always put my money elsewhere. Zenoah and Brillelli and FPE just to name a few.... Ralph at RCIGN1 does great work for upgrades on the Zenoahs and his prices are reasonable too.... Bill

Birman,
Ralph does a lot of work especially changing over the Zenoahs from magneto to advancing electronic ignition systems. I know he does other work besides but you would have to call him to ask him about that. Personally I would go with what he said or with a Brillelli. They are inovative and have built up a good reputation in a few short years. There engines run great and are resonably priced. I own there 60cc engine and am pleased with the workmanship, price, and performance..... Bill

Every engine has a following... on the lower quality engines it's usually because they havent tried something else.
The biggest strike against Fuji is the cost for replace parts and the lack of power compared to other engines of the same size. They also tend to be a little bit heavier. Really it depends what you are putting it in... if it's a warbird type plane or something you want scale performance in then they are the ticket. There are many better alternatives out there though.
Both Ralph and Scott at Brillelli do good work. I have owned 4 Brillellis and always been happy.

Birman,
I agree with Sinergy. There are many options out there and depending on what type of plane you plan on flying may effect your decission making. I'm not trying to knock Fuji but it sounded like you wanted some opinions so I just gave you mine. I have one G62, one FPE 52cc, one DA 50 and one Brillelli 60cc running right now. All run great and are easy to start and IMO have good power..... I did a lot of checking around before I bought any of the engines just like you are doing.....
I usually fly on Russell Road at the Sterling Field about 1/2 mile off I-94 and sometimes at Bong. I was a member of the Racine Club about 6 years ago.... Bill

The plane is the new giant scale Super Sportster by Great Planes. The Fuji is the engine they recommend plus they include templates for cutting the cowl for the Fuji. This is the engine I was looking at:

They recommend that engine because it's what they distrubute. I would think you could figure out how to cut a cowl.
I would recommend you just do a search on Fuji... I am sure you will find enoough info to keep you busy and make an educated decision.

If they wanted to guarantee that you were going to use a Fuji they should have just cut the cowel out themselves . I don't own the Super Sportser, but I'm sure it is a nice flying plane and very aerobatic. Sometimes the best route is not always the easiest road to follow. You have been given some options and like Sinergy suggested, do some searches and be informed...... Bill

You have the giant scale Super Sportster? I didn't think they were shipping until late June.

IMO, Fuji is at the bottom of the list. In war birds that need more weight up front, I go with the heavier Zenoah, based on both power and reliability. When weight AND power is a consideration, such as in aerobatic planes, many good engines are available. FPE, DA, 3W, and even the knock-offs of these are all good choices. Even for sport, I would go with Brison or Brellilli before Fuji. There are other choices as well, most of which are better than Fuji. Only my humble opinion, after some 17 years of flying gas engines.[8D]

RE: Fuji Imvac BT-32B 32cc Gas Engine, good or bad?
I have a Fuji 32B on a giant chipmunk. It pulls a 18-8 prop at 8300 rpm. Plenty of power, easy to start. It is just a bit heavy. I did convert the muffler to a smoke muffler. I wound a 5/32 brass tube around a glow engine muffler I had to make a coil that fits inside the fuji muffler. I just drilled a 5/32 hole in the muffler case for the end of the tube. I pinched the end of the coil that is inside the muffler closed, and drilled three .014 holes in the coiled up tube. Put ouy good smoke.
