Default G23 conversion kit

Anybody making a G23 conversion kit yet? I know that RCEXL was supposedly working on one, but haven't heard anything lately. Been to CH's site and didn't see the 23 listed.

My G23 was converted with a Reichmuth electronic CDI (Ridge Machine) a long time ago. Since the G23 is no longer in production, the likelihood of a kit is, i think, remote. I think, however, that CH could very well set you up with the conversion, or do it for you. It seems likely that the elctronic CDI for the G26EI or the G20EI could work as well for the G23, but I don't know. A friend just ordered a G26EI, but I haven't seen it yet for comparison with my older G23.

C&H used to have a kit for the G23. I have one. I don't know if they still do a kit or not. But it works good.

Call C&H or Ralph Cunningham.

They can certainly fix you up

There's the older and the newer style G-23

CH has kits for both the G-23 old style and new style. The new style looks like the G-26 mag engine with two coils. The old style has just one large coil in the back.

I've not personally owned a G23, but what's different about the rear shaft, and source coil mount on one, as compared to the 20 and 26? RCexl has this kit, for those engines, would it work? http://www.agaperacingandhobby.com/s...5&productid=33

Works only on the new style 23s and 26s with the spark coil on the side and source coil behind the cylinder...Older Kalt and G23s are completely different, source and spark coil are one unit behind the cylinder..Nope, I don't do it any longer, get one from Bill....

I knew better to ask you Ralph. I've read you were semi-retired.

Shoot, I knew I'd seen some older 23's, but couldn't put my finger on where. Once you mentioned the helicopters that was it! Now I can picture the different ignition configuration too. Geez, the memory is starting to go.

Ralph, you guys ever race somewhere up my direction? I would really like to catch one of these events sometime, and meet the man behind the name...after all this engine chat over the years.

Here is what my older G23 looked like before the conversion.

Antique, i grew up in Wichita, and used to go fishing in El Dorado. Small world.

Hello, I just got off the phone with Jim at Agape racing and hobby and he said they should have an EI for the G23 in a couple of weeks and the cost should be around $60.00 to $65.00, which I don't think it's bad.
I'd like to convert mine too.
Happy flying and God bless.

No need to limit yourself to Agape...though I have done buisiness with Jim and I've had great success thus far. Anyone who sells RCExL ignition components will have a fair shot at providing you the conversion. Jim seems to purposely stock the conversion items, but I can't say whether or not other RCexl dealers are as well. Check around!

Ralph has reworked a Zenoah G-62 and a G-26 for me. One could not imagine better customer service or super competency.

The G-23 has been out of production for a while now. I'm glad that I still have my NIB G-23 in my stash. It was a classic among gas engines and it did tons to get we modelers flying with spark plugs. Another classic is the Quadra Q35.

I'm still kicking myself for having recently passed on a deal to get me another G23 which was almost brand new and was being offered at a bargain price. The foolish things we sometimes do ... ah well. One thing for sure is the one Ralph converted for me is a 'keeper'.
