Default Tecumseh Engine

OK Guys, I was poking around the 'net and came across an engine supplier that has Tecumseh 2 stroke engines in 49cc, 85cc, and 139cc. Anybody have any experience here? They have float type carbs that would have to be replaced. No weight figures were listed (that I saw). Also the Honda 31 (available for $180 + sh), any possibilities this would work well on a Dymond 100" Rearwin Speedster? 4 stroke would sound cool!

Saw that already, that's what gave me the idea. But I don't know this person and figured I see if anyone here had done it.

I converted two of these about 10 years ago, was not impressed with the power..Tecumseh was the only company that was not adverse to using their engines in model airplanes....

Those engines you converted, are they the same as the current crop? If yes, then it's a dead issue. If they are not the same, then maybe a revisit is in order?

That little honda is a great engine. A guy in our club has one and it will run all day on a tank of fuel, and provides pleanty of power.

It was a long time ago, there were two versions, one with a roller bearing on the front and the other with a roller...I converted the ball bearing versions...Maybe they have changed.....Seems like they ran about like a G38, 7000 rpm with a 20-8....

Then maybe an experiment is in order here. Maybe when I'm done my Ryobi 4 stroke, I'll take a look at these.

OK think I might be on to something here. Found a place to get a Tecumseh 98cc 2 stroke engine, new for under $90! The only catch, you must be a dealer. RCIGN, any possibilities here? I'll cough up the bucks if it looks like a viable option. Man can you imagine the possibility of a 98cc engine for under $350!!!! Even if it required some work to increase the hp.

This is the response I received from Nortern Tool.

Thank you for the email.

Currently we are not offering this make and model Tecumseh but do appreciate your checking with us! We may be able to cross reference it to another model with the shaft size (length and diameter) as well as bolt pattern measurement on the base measured diagonally.

Thank You!!!
Hal

Well got my 138cc Tecumseh in today. First weight figure: 24.2lbs! After breaking it down: 9.0lbs! What a drop in weight. I still have more to take off though, this may shed yet another 1 to 1.5lbs. My target weight was 8.0lbs bare. Most 150cc twins range from 7.25 to 8.5lbs bare so I think I'm on the right track. I have a 49cc coming on Monday so that will be next for some weight figures.

Have one of the 141cc Briggs singles close to a test run. Am planning on a 30x8 PK prop for it.

Most likely some type of electronic ignition. Flywheel and cdi are about 8lbs!
