Carb govenor?
Just finished up converting two large chinsaws I picked up in an auction, a Poulan 75 cc and a Homelite 80 cc. The polan is using the magneto and I have the Homelite on EI. Both engines use the Walbro WJ9 D8 carb.
First test runs on both engines were with a TF power point 24-8. Max rpm was 6600 on both engines. A second run was done with a 22-6 Zinger. Again max rpm was 6600 on both engines.
I could not find the WJ9 on the Walbro site, but found out that it has ben replased with the WJ10-1. Is it possible/probable that these carbs have a govenor kit installed? If so, how do I identify it, and how can it be disabled?
Any information would be appreciated.

Carb govenor?
The governor is a ball and spring under a small brass screw in the side of the carb...It opens when the carb vibrates at high rpm..If the engine is not getting rich when wide open the governor is not doing anything.....The screw has sealer on it and is tight, but will come out..you can take the screw out and plug the hole, or take the top cover off the carb and plug up the hole that leads to the governor....

The Homelite was definitely getting rich. It would accelerate to 6600 than richen up and drop off to 6000. I found the screw and plugged the outlet with a small gasket held in by the govenor screw.
Test run this afternoon on the 24-8 TF power point yielded 7250. I would like to try a 26" but don't have one. However this engine seems to have comparable power to some of the other 80 cc engines, so I am satisfied with it. Not a bad deal on two running engines for $30.00 and about 6 hours each to convert, including turning the prop shaft and making the mount and stand offs.

Carb govenor?
The screw is located under the choke shaft. I used a 3/16" hole punch to punch out a small gasket and put it in the hole and tightned down the screw.
