This is a engine that I ran some RPM and thrust test on

The first vedio is in two parts, The first test is with a 22-A Vess prop and the secound is with a 23-A Vess prop. Both test are in the same vedio.

The secound vedio was the first test with a Menz carbon fiber 22-10 prop

The engine is new with about 3 oz of fuel, Waiting to see what it does after a gallon or two have been run through it.

you have about 4.5 hp at 7000 rpm. The Vess provides a bit more static load, but that does not conclude the test. What is the performance difference up in the air in long uplines?

milton - regardless of the findings, and whatever ensuing disputes occur.... I ** Really** like your method of documenting your tests on video. Well done... covers the basics very well...and your setup is pretty slick.

regardless of prop you choose, that seems like a pretty good 50cc class Chinese motor.

should work just fine for ya.

Your thrust test is alittle flawed, in that there is leverage workong on your scale. I am not disputing that you have a good and powerful engine, but not quite as much thrust as your scale shows.

I know the stand is not NASA certified but could you explain more about how it is flawed.

The point of hook up to center of pivot point to point of contact with scales are the same, If anything I am losing thrust reading from air hitting the flat block with hook up.

The point where your plane hooks on appears in the video to be about 5 inches above what appears to be a hinge. The distance will create leverage and give you a higher reading. It's not that big of a deal just thought I would bring it to your attention. If you moved the eye bolt in line with your hinge my guess is you would get a different reading. Significantly less? not sure but less I am sure.

Great videos. Use a starting glove! Man that CF prop will cut your fingers off. I have a friend that can only count to 9 1/2 now on his fingers, though right after the prop got done with him he said he could of counted to about 20 his fingers where so well sliced and diced.

One could pull on that fulcrum/pivot point till hell froze over, and there wouldn't be an ounce measured on the scale.... Good eye!!!!

I can vouch for the starting glove.... had a mis-timed Brison once.... carried lumpy, bruised cuts on the BACK of a couple fingers for awhile... [&o]

The line from hook to hing to scale contact point should include a 90° angle, and have equal length. The angle between pull cord and the line from hook to hinge should be 90° as well.
That can be achieved by placing the scale table higher.
The lever should presens as small a surface to the prop wash. Now that wash reduces the reading, and may well cancel the high reading by the (possible) angle errors

A little offtopic. Milton, i notised the rudder is making small moves almost all the time. Did you try to eliminate it? I have the power hammer from futaba on my rudder and it also seems very unpeacefull but not all the time like yours.

Vess was at 29, the CF was around 26, rpm a little higher on the Vess.

To Pawel, good eye on the rudder, The rudder servo was not installed at time of test.

As to the contact point of the hook up, Makes no difference as long as the pull point is the same from hinge point as the contact to the scales.

My very close Grish Brothers thrust chart shows 28 lbs for a 22-10 at 7000 rpm...Close enough for government work

Flew 1/2 gallon through it today and the rpms on the 22-A vess went up to 7350, that is a little to much so time to go to a 23.

At the feild I was at today using the same thrust stand and same vess props, Could not find a motor the even came close to same thrust, The only one was a G62 that was not broken in and running a little rich is the only one that came close, The other motors tested were some of the high dollar motors.

Milton, was the 22A the first prop in the two prop video? Was it making more thrust than the 23A?

Yes the first prop was the 22A and putting out about 1/2 lb more thrust, At time of vedio the engine was new, After about 1/2 gallon fuel the engine picked up 300 rpm and the 23-A put out more thrust.
