Well,,,, if BME ever starts selling the 58cc, it surely will be the lightest.

The Brillelli 50 is the same engine as the BME 50 with Scott's own take on it.. However here is a good resource

It uses the RC Exl unit. Add about 7 or 8 ounces.

Thanks. I couldn't remember the exact number from when I weighed mine so I went a couple ounces heavy for a fudge factor

Is it time for a rip-roaring "weight doesn't matter" thread???? I think so.....

(When I have to add 6 oz to the tail using a DL 50, sorta defeats the purpose.... -)

Hate to tell ya, but I know of a 28 that just might beat your 56 but you can't have it It started life as half of yours but changed a little in the development process.

Just a bit of one upmanship, I had to add 3/4Lb to the nose of my Composite Edge to get the C of G in the manufactureres recommended position, light engings Pah.

HA! I wonder how many of us remember the EARLY gasser days when EVERYTHING ended up nose heavy, and 3D hadn't even been invented yet. There was NO "CDI", sure as heck no "microprocessor advance"....probably still shoulder injuries that never healed from those boat anchor-small-prop turners....

Default RE: Who sells the lightest 50cc engine???

I sometime wonder why it has become so critically important to have the absolute lightest of everything. Do we fly so badly that we can't have a safe and enjoyable flight unless the plane is so over powered that the prop can pull the plane out of almost any poorly executed maneuver?

Suddenly, after decades of flying R/C is has become mandatory to have a 2-1 power to weight ratio or the plane-engine combo isn't worth having. Those poor unlimited class racers clearly don't have a clue. They prolly only have a 1.3-1 ratio and can't seem to go faster tham 250mph with a propeller. The warbird people just don't have a clue. Flying a 30 pound plane on a G-62 just can't be done. Worse must be the pattern guys since they have weight and size limitation imposed by regulations. Just how can they get by flying perfect maneuvers with such restrictions?

You've gone over the top when you start seriously sweating a few grams or ounces. That's my opinion anyway. Big planes aren't foamies and it should come as no surprise that they don't always fly like a foamie. Foamies are a class of their own. God help the R/C neophyte that climbs in the front seat of a full scale looking for the same performance they have in a model.

Gotta disagree Pat. You are right that we don't NEED all this power and light weight, but it sure makes life easier when trying to 3d or just flog your plane around. I'll take a light wing loaded over powered plane any day of the week.
Lighter does fly better. Hope that BME 58 that is pictured is released soon.

Now Pat be fair here... when 3Ding light wing loading makes a world of a difference. Pretty hard to 3D a plane that gets snappy on you when you get heavy on the sticks!

I agree we don't need the power that people use and I see more people go overkill than not... ie: DA 100 or BME 115 in a 24 pound plane when I use an 80.

Somewhere is all of this there is balance.. although I would rather move the engine out 1/4 - 1/2" rather than adding 6oz to the tail.
